I have an annoying issue with my TJ VRX. Driving along and then when ever it feels like it, it decides to turn on the TCL and Engine Lights on. I can not make it happen, it just happens intermitently, and when ever i turn the car off, and turn it back on, the lights will be off.

I took the car to the Auto Electrician, who put it on a scanner and said it is hard to diagnose the issue as it is so random and not a constant issue. Rang Mitsubishi who advised to wait till it becomes constant then bring it in.

I dont want to wait and then it becomes a major issue, so just picking anyones brain that may have seen this issue in the past since no one else can help...

It's the TCL solenoid they r located on the firewall, if u wanna get them new from mitsu they are around $180 both or go to the wreckers n get it used for $20

If the Check Engine Light is coming on it should be logging a code, info on how to retrieve whats logged here (http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Engine#How_can_I_read_a_fault_code_from_the_ECU_wi thout_a_MUT-II.3F)

I'm having the same issue with my TW. Not all codes are stored when these lights come on. My advice is if you want these codes read, when these lights are on you'll literally have to drive the car on the spot to the dealer. Don't turm the car off as generally they will extinguish and not come on again. I did this and when they read the code from the TCL system it flagged the APS sensor on the throttle body. It's now been replaced and the lights did not come on again, however I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and when I drove the car next I started having issues again for a couple of days but has not happened for over a week now.
When they fitted the new APS, I have since discovered it was incorrectly adjusted so it's now right but won't know if that's fixed it or not.

Other people have reported faulty diodes in the alternator causing voltage spikes or noise could be inducing the error codes. With mine I'm thinking this could be true as the TCL strill operates so it's most likely a false flag. Good luck cause I don't think my dealer knows what is really causing it. Of course you may actually have a failed component but quite a few people seem to be reporting the same symptoms, electrical gremlins it may be.

I'm assuming that you'll be charged for whatever work Mits does so be prepared for the possiblity of forking out and still not getting it resolved. Could be a costly exercise for no result.

Thanks HRD2GT, bought myself the soleniod from wreckers for $20 and problem has not returned.

Prices are crazy for this part:- Mitsubishi want $290; wreckers who know about this issue will charge $80-$100; wreckers who has no idea $20.

No worries mate, good to hear that $20 solved the problem ;)
