thanks, I'm pretty sure I have crap in the petrol tank and need to flush it out
thee has been a few news reports latly all around aus about crap fuel so a shame its that is your issue. just looked over the factory manual and sadly there isnt a drain plug on them altho mine has one ( i love replacement fuel tanks the last owner paid for) just remember if its dirty fuel thats your issue to make sure you change the fuel filter also
is their any particular thing your car is doing to make you think of dirty fuel?

yes it runs rough on acceleration when the fuel is low in the tank, but runs ok when tank is full
the local mechanic told me to use premium unleaded and keep the tank topped up, this works fine but I really want the tank cleaned out
id replace ya fuel filter first and then if the issue keeps happening then drop the tank, i have a link here somewhere for the factory service manuals for the 2nd and 3rd gens ill find it and post the link again for you, might make it easier for ya

Pull the fuel pump out and see if the filter is blocked, if it comes out nice and clean, there is no need to drop the tank. If it comes out covered in rust flakes you know you have a problem. lol A pro can open the tank after steam cleaning it and clean out the rust.

Or a pro would use metho to absorb the water hmmm
If you tink you have dirty fuel, you can pump the tank dry, there will be a little left but not much, drop the tank and then clean out, dont use water please lol
After you have done this and then also changed the fuel filter and cleaned the pick up filter, run some wynns fuel system clean through the tank, this will disolve any remaining rubbish, change your filter again and with luck you will be ok
Another cause for them to do what you have issues with is the gauze filter in the tank sometimes falls off or gets blocked, will reproduce same issue
