As per thread title... Im not asking if its possible, i know anything is possible with enough $$$$ but instead has anyone done it? My brother just bought a front cut for his gto (his needs new engine), He's got no money at the moment so he offered me to buy it. Ok few obvious issues:
Its facing wrong way? but it still fits to 6g74 mounts right?
Main issue is the gear box? its on the wrong side & its for AWD? whats the work around there?
Front cut has wiring harness & the ecu.
I mean once you consider all the costs for doing FI on 3rd gen, really even if it costs 4g to put in its still worth it.. (front cut will cost me 2k)

1) Yep wrong way
2) No...wrong way...
3) It's the wrong way...not one single item will work
4) Best thing to do is use the slightly smaller 6A12TT from the galant which bolts in
It will simply not work.

OR get the last of the GTO which according the Mitsubishi Workshop manual does have the engine on the RHS of the car
The one you have, you will have too many issues such as the manifolds, TB etc etc all being on the wrong side of the engine
Your other bet may be to build the engine onto the block of a 3.5, there are a few brackets to be made for PS pump etc but I have dummied one up and there was simply nothing to stop this from being done

All GTO's have the engine and gearbox on the same side as the first one that came out in 1991.
Unless this is a GTO I've never heard of?! (GTO's were from 91-99)
but the gearbox, transfer case, driveshaft, rear end...would all be totally different

might also mention, to keep this legal anyways the engine you put in your car will have to be newer of from an era when that engine was offered in your model.

That was a SOHC IIRC. Alllllllll custom stuff (the two tone one yes?)
Apparently this is using the TT motor;

Sorry but no, not totally correct.
I know of at lease one here in aus that has been imported with the engine on the drivers side, there was apparently a model overseas that were only made for about a year and a half with the later style motor and box on the pass side. I am looking at a trans out of one for a conversion
I have also seen the paper factory manual at a dealership for this exact car and the engine is on the drivers side on that one as well
The youtube thing is that crappa from RPW, I am honestly surprised it even made it 400m without the aid of a tow truck lol

by engine i think he means gearbox, because, hopefully the engine is in the centre
pretty sure it's offset slightly to either side of the gearbox depending on the engine.

This is what I thought until I looked at a series of Workshop Manuals put out by Mitsubishi, the people who make these cars, there was a model, I think it was a 2001ish model, had a 6 speed box, was a rhight hand placed engine, there was a diagram of the engine bay on several pages showing componant location all of which show the 6 speed version, being the last of the model, with the engine on the RHS
I have an inporter in Japan trying to confirm this for us as these would be ideal boxes for AWD manual conversions.
There, according to 1 dealer, meant to be at least 2 of these here in Melb getting around also.
Obviously until I see this car in the flesh, I will be reserved but going from the manual itself it certainly looks like there may have been something out there before the car was doscontinued

I can honestly say after being on the 3000GT forums for 5 years and reading the forums as often as I do AMC this is the first I've heard of such a car. Something doesn't add up as the last 3000GT's/GTOs (Z16A chassis) were discontinued in late 1999
Found out it's actually mid 2000 they stopped making them)
But umm yeah...Have you got any pictures of this car? Are you sure it's not an eclipse GT?

Ja. And pretty sure they were never factory turbocharged? (Someone correct me there if need be)
Just the same 3L SOHC 24v we got the TE/F/H/J's

Do you know which ones in AWD dress came in 6 speed manual trans, this may help as the 6speed I am looking at is pass side mounted

Unfort Mal my knowledge doesn't spread to the eclipse's as I have no need for the information
You can try something like club3g which should have a bit of info on there.

Already looked into this Mal. The 6th Gen Eclipses didn't come out in AWD. It was only the 95-99 models which came out in AWD, and they ran the 4G63 motor.
I tihnk I know what Mal is talking about. I once saw a pic of a 6G72 with the 6G74 orientation with 'CYCLONE' stamped on the inlet manifold. Not sure if it was Turbo or not but it had the black rocker covers

You mean, a 2nd gen motor but in 3rd gen orientation? Cause there is a 6g72 and 6g74 that fits both models if you know what I mean. CYCLONE was used on some of the SOHC 12v 72' motors. They didn't have the VICS system in the intake manifold. VERY hard to find manifold. the SOHC CYCLONE manifold is harder to find then any other manifold I of for the 6g series.
