Gday everyone, i have a 92 pajero with a 3.0v6 that hasnt been driven for something like 5 years (until the last one month odd) the problem is, it has a rattle when its cold then after 5 minutes when it warms up the rattles goes completely, oil pressures not bad (around half gauge when cold then drops a bit when it warms up) it really does sound like the faint sound of bigend bearing rattle but from previous experiances with other makes of cars i have only found bigends to rattle when the engines HOT & oil pressure comes down, not the opposite ..

so really the question is.. Can bigends in 3.0 v6 rattle when cold then once the engines at operating temperature make no noise at all -not even a trace ??..

Keen as mustard to hear back, im not sure if I should even be driving it because if it is bigends I may not have damaged the crank just yet, its only faint "at the moment"

thanks for reading :) .. hope someone out there can hear my knock !!

Hi thanx for reply..

lifter tick is a sorta totally different sound to bigend rattle though

at idle ya cant hear it, rev up just a bit & its there!.. light load is really loud this is possibly when its the worse .. Big load can hardly hear it

nah thats not a silly question at all ! . i should have said but Im trying not to rant to much ! lol

Changed the oil a week ago when i first noticed this but didnt do filter, flushed oil & changed again today using Nulon 20/50 oil (mineral based) & a new oil filter & it really didnt make any difference to speak of, might be getting a bit worse if anything, the problem is only time will tell BUT time will also $%*& it !! lol.. trying to get in early if a few to many people do "vote" bearings - lol "ohh god I really dont want to do this" !!

I also disconnected the oil cooler lines & checked for oil flow (way PLENTY)

Remove your acc belts, ie alt etc, as the mits engines are known for a groan that can sound like a bottom end noise when cold when the idler pulleys are gone also

Which engine does the car have in it, I assume is the 12v 6G72?
