My thermostat was stuck open, and leaking a bit, ive put a new one in, new gasket, new piece between the hose and thermostat (housing?) and its dripping at temperature. The first time i did it up the thermostat had fallen out the seat and it dripped when cold, so i used extra sealant and made sure it was in properly. I have to get it done before tomorrow morning, so ive got the floodlights out for when the engine cools down again.. Any tips?
All the old gasket has been picked off, and since the new housing looked like it was surface finished with an angle grinder i rubbed it on some sandpaper on a piece of glass to get rid of the worst of the grooves, there are still a few left but only if you look realllly close.
Also: To get to the thermostat ive been taking the intake off up to the TB, and unplugging one of the hoses under the TB to get to the top bolt. Is this the easiest way to get to it or does the fuel rail come off in some way without having to depressurise it all?
Also also: I think its fixed. Extra goo on the gasket, done everything up to the point of the threads about to strip, no leaks hot or cold, and i can roll down hills with OD on and the heater on full and it will stay at temp! I just hope there isnt a puddle under it in the morning.
