Just had a flat battery and jumped it to get going again.

Had to re-enter the radio code, but 'd4' is showing on the mileage display.

Does anyone know what this means, or how I can find out.

Yeah that is the trip computer setting meaning 4WD. Just hold down mode till it beeps. Then 3.5 should come up. Just hold down mode again till it beeps again then all is done.
