As in above picture, first get the crank and cam marks lined up, then move the tensioner back against the spring and lock it down. Work the belt on, from the tension side. If correct, ie the marks still line up, release the tensioner bolt and let it take up belt slack. Check the marks again. Leave tensioner bolt loose by half a turn.Turn the crank through 360 degrees, going clockwise, then check the marks again and if correct, tension the bolt. Can be a bit annoying if the marks don't line up, as you have to start again. Make sure you put the cover back on, then the metal disc on the crank before you put the pulley back on. Check that the disc doesn't rub on the plastic timing cover. Torque settings are in the manual. Crank pulley and tensioner bolt are ones important to get right.

If you are replacing an old belt check it for oil contamination, any leaks from cam or crank seals can shorten the life of a new belt. I replaced a belt that had done 40,000 km because it was oil covered from a leaking crank seal. Not nice.
