Hi guys,

can't seem to find what i'm looking for in searches,

I want to check my base timing, to do that i need to set the car into diagnostic mode to run base timing (no idle ignition maps etc)

Not sure how to do it on this car but it should be as simple as grounding two pins, can anyone let me know?

Its a 98 TF verada v6 (3.5L)

Cheers.

Good question, its not like the 1st and 2nd gen Magnas. I have not seen any mention of how to check this in the 3rd gen manual. Its pretty much set at the factory, and unless the pickup on the crankshaft has a problem, its not going to drift at all. The distributor is not involved in setting the base timing. Maybe someone smarter than me can chime in here? As far as I know, you need on of those MUTT things, which allows you to switch to base idle timing and get a reading direct from the comms connector under the dash, no timing light required.

actually it uses a optical hall effect sensor which is run off the timing belt crank pulley, there is no home signal for the ecu, i'm assuming the distributor has another optical sensor on it or a magnetic internal reluctor. need to have a good look, fyi drifting timing relates to timing moving due to a inconsistent trigger.
