Hi All,
I have a problem with my TL, the alarm keeps going off not long (5-10 minutes) after I arm it.
I was attempting to see if it was the bonnet switch (having had that issue before on another car - on the TL its a black thing to the left of the radiator), and I've noticed if I pop the bonnet, push down the bonnet switch and then lock/arm the car. If I then let go of the switch, I'd expect the alarm to go off, but it doesn't.
So I was hoping for some feedback on
(a) Has anyone had this problem (alarm going off) - what was it in your case?
(b) Can anyone replicate this bonnet switch test for me on their TL (does the alarm go off)
Thanks,
Trent

(a) Yes, my alarm went off twice in 15 minutes because I was leaning on the lock button, when the key was in my pocket. lol
(b) Yes, I've tested this with both my TJ and my mum's TL, the alarm goes off when I push it, lock the car and then let go.
To me that sounds like there is a loose connection or something similar somewhere along the line.
Hope that helps.

Easiest way to test the switch.. Inplug it from underneath. (the bonnet Switch of course). You should be able to arm the car as normal and if the switch is faulty then your alarm wont go off again with it unplugged. I had a issue on a windy day years ago when my bonnet was bent. Switch was only just making contact and with a light breeze bonnet would move a tad and set alrm off.
Try that and see how you go.

is it possible you have some water inside the switch? dust cover torn?

Is the car hard to lock?
Could be a faulty door switch also
Not sure if there is a switch for the bootlid either

There is one for the boot aswell. Best way is to unplug them one at a time till the alarm stops going off.:-)

Thanks for the tip all and doing the test.. I will try isolate this as the cause. Thanks.

To test the bonnet switch, you need to arm the alarm while holding down the switch and give it at least 30 seconds to arm itself, the other way unplug, arm, when is armed (sec light is off) then hold down, plug in and release
My wife's KF is having similar issues, as is an XI is similar system. It is the LHS door actuator unlocking the car randomly

What a pain the you know where!Having same issue! Following thread I have disconnected the bonnet sensor switch. Alarm still goes off (after about 10-15mins or so). Where is the boot sensor switch? Also some times the boot will open itself. So boot sensor??? Not happy! Been a bloody good car till now....!

Boot sensor switch is on the back of the lock cylinder. Just disconnecting it on the connector down the wire a bit didn't work for me, alarm went off. Perhaps if you take the switch off the back of the lock and move it to the shut position?
If the boot opens itself somehow, without using the key in the lock, that will be enough to set off the alarm. Check the catch mechanism or the cable mechanism if you have the switch in the glovebox.
