I know this has been covered over and over but I can't find a definate answer.
I have $850 to spend on headers (once my tax return arrives)

I'm tossing up between Pacemaker or RPW Race spec (Long primaries) for my 3.0L TF (Manual, LPG).

I can get Pacemakers for around $550 delivered but then I will need to get them installed by a pro due to the welding required.

RPW are $580 delivered but they are around $900 with HPC coating.
Is it really worth getting the HPC coating?

Another consideration is that I will be trading up to my wifes TH 3.5L in a couple of years and will want to swap the headers over, RPW will be easier to swap over than the Pacemakers.

For a 3.0l i'd go the pacemakers..slightly thinner primaries will be more suited to the 3l's capacity.

welding is required for a replacement flexi pipe

Doesn't the existing flex pipe get cut and welded on?

Also, the local exhaust shop quoted $840 for Pacemakers fitted, I think that's a bit rich?

well you can get the flexi cut off from the original engine pipe and welded on or have a new flexi replaced... up to you depending on cost

That might be the go, I'll be putting the extractors onto my wifes TH 3.5L once we buy another car in 6 months or so

Well, I went with a set of Pacemakers ($517 on Ebay)
Shouldn't cost more than $250 to have installed? if only I could weld.

Hi mate,
I went with the RPW option and had the coated option........they fit with no dramas at all and have made a noticeable difference........also, with the coating they are definately keeping the engine bay temps down.......i have dun a run and opened up the bonnet to check various things......accidentally touched the front bank one day, and even though it was hot.....no burn as would've been with the originals or uncoated ones. Also because the heat is being kept inside the pipe ,they are going to scavenge the exhaust gas better. Obviously that's a marginal thing, but none the less important. They wo'nt rust either. lol

Cheers,

Pug.

Pacemakers arrived today, Exhaust shop can't do them until Tuesday!!!!! :(
Does anyone know what the go is with the manifold gaskets? it didn't come with any, just wondering if the old one's get reused?

So, originally got quoted $840 fitted.
By buying them myself it will end up being around $700 fitted

only my personal opinion....but even IF the gaskets look good.....REPLACE them as even the slightest nick or compression of them may cause a leak and you'll end up doubling up on the labour to fix blow by. They're relatively cheap anyhow so no biggy.

Cheers,

Pug.

Pacemakers installed, much better accelleration now but, is the hissing noise normal or do I have a leak?

leak.... should be silent up front from your engine...

Correct unless you have some nice lumpy cams then you getting the ringing/pulsing sound at idle. Could also be the "flex" joint, some of those are prone to making a hissing sound upon acceleration

Exhaust guy check it out, he said it sounds normal but to bring it back in a week or so and he'll double check..

Sorry to jump in. But with headers with HPC coating, were the stock heat shields refitted? I had mine off for a while and noticed an improvement in response but was told the heat can do damage in the engine bay.

Ive never had heat sheilds on my Pacemakers and they have been on my magna since 2002/03.... Have since had them ceramic coated in 2007 and still no heat damage under the bonnet and my POS has been loaded up on the dyno many times. Dyno running a car builds up heat alot more intensly than normal street driving.

They weren't refitted, doesn't seem to be getting too hot under the hood.
