Hi guys great forum I have a problem with my 95 magna 4 cylinder, I am losing oil and I have seen oil on the top of the rocket cover near the oil cap and when you drive it for a while you can smell the oil burning. Under the oil cap is oil deposit and when I start the car up and take off there is blueish white smoke.

Also where the air filter is along that intake is a small puddle of oil and often I have to spray the throttle body as it stalls when I idle, after I spray the car does not stall for a few months.

Any advice would be great and if the rocket cover has to be replaced how easy is it to do yourself.

Cheers Bob

First check that the positive crankcase ventilation valve and hose - on top of the rocker cover, are not blocked. Changing the rocker cover gasket is easy, but you need to be careful to not overtighten the 2 bolts that hold it down (with the rubber bungs under them), as this can damage the camshaft. Manual says 7 Nm IIRC. If the engine has huge km on it, it may just be blowby from the rings. Oil deposits in the air intake is normal for a worn engine.

Thanks for the reply I checked the hose and valve all good, I did notice that it was coming from under the oil cap so I have changed that and see how that goes later.

The cap helped a bit but it is still leaking from the one side the cap doesn't feel as if it is a tight fit, it the proper cap so does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this.

I don't know about the 2nd gen 4cyl, but my old 1st gen used to leak oil from the cap until I discovered how to put the cap on properly.

As the cap is turned all the way you will feel it loosen a bit at the end of the turn. You have to turn the cap back just a little bit until you feel it tighten properly.

Hope that helps

http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81373, might be part of a bigger problem however this issue wouldnt cause blueish smoke
