hi all... i just took my TH for a rego check and the dude there reckons
that i have to take my 18s off because you can only go 2in in dia over stock and that means 17s max
im sure that you could get 16s on a TH when new
so is he  or will i have to put stockies on for rego??

TH Sports came with 16" ex factory....and the rules have changed ... what he said, on both counts. Rolling diameter has to be within 5mm of OEM, from memory.

can't say 100%, depends if NSW has the same size laws as SA and if your 18's with tyres are within the tolerance allowed etc. Probably best to get another opinion, speak to the RTA, other AMC in NSW etc.

from what I've read on here it changed from the old 2" bigger rim rule to as long as the outside diameter of new your wheel + tyre combination is within 15mm difference with what is on your tyre placcard.
Based on this 18" wheels should be fine depending on the tyre size you have (and offsets and the like)
to compare the two tyre/wheel combinations there are some websites available:
I think one was 'wheelmaster' or similar, another is the miatanet tyre size calculator.
Whenever in doubt check with RTA also though.
Download the RTA rules for wheels...http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi09_rev4.pdf
The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle. The tyre placard plays an important role here.

What's this got to do with a mechanic...its the rego place isn't it? I don't get it...

pretty sure interstate where they have regular compulsory roadworthy checks that your mechanic does it or something like that?
Just print out the damn page from the link Bill posted and take it to the mechanic and tell him he needs to be re-educated. I wonder how many people he has screwed.

Nah Blue/Pink slips are done by authorised mechanics in NSW. Not by the RTA.
