Hey guys, am posting this in the Audio thread, because guys who troll this might have had similar experiences.
Anyway, as the tittle suggests there is a distinct metal rattling sound coming from around my parcel shelf in the back of my 2004 TW magna. It began minor and only when I was getting bass from the 6x9's. However it got progressively worse to the point where I had to turn the rear speakers off. However, the bass form the sub causes it no issue. Now though it can happen at speed from general vibration and if the car hits potholes, undulations and rough roads.
Has anybody got any idea of where the source of this metal vibration sound is coming from.
Thanks, Brad
have you tried ripping the parcel shelf out and just looking under it to see if something is under there? do you have a baby capsule mount in place? have you looked the at the rear speakers and made sure that nothing is broken on it? you could always try and apply some form of sound deadening and see if this helps

Thanks, mate, have checked out the speakers throughly and they are okay, thought about sound deadening, but was trying all other options before throwing money at it :P Haven't checked the baby seat whatcha-ma-whos-it, thanks
Is it possible something like crumbs or tiny rocks or anything have fallen in the speakers and are vibrating against the cone when it runs?

it might not actually be the parcel shelf it could be the headliner, because when that rattles it make it seem like the rear window or parcel shelf is rattling. Also check the little metal clips on the rear speakers because they are notorius for vibrating against the metal shelf if thats the case get some closed cell foam to place on the clip.
ive got a hurter rattle in my parcel shelf that has about a 5hz resonance range and ive been way too lazy to actually get around to sorting it out, ive only just got around to isolating my front door rattles after 1.5 years :P for something that annoys me so much, i am pretty damn lazy about it!
I resolved an annoying rattle, the speaker covers have a metal tab underneath, tgis wasnt screwed into the cover enough

+1 Those were the little metal clips i was talking about. They are small but very annoying at times.

Must parcel shelves will have factory wires running across and through it, for the brake light for example.
The only real way to stop it all is to remove all the top covers and deaden it all. This will add weight and you will cover the wires with the deadening as well to stop them from moving - thus making them more secure and no rattles. Also good to add a layer of thin carpet underlay or similar to the underside of the trim :)
When I had my Magna's I used a lot of foam and wedged it in there. Stopped it a bit...

I have no rattles at all from my shelf, or headliner anymore doing it the way i did (you can see in my build) i got rid of 95% of rattles now all that rattles are the very little things (eg: the left window crank)
