Nš 1 son has just committed to buying a KJ Verada (XI) - little turd, I want it :boxing:

Was wondering if the sunroof is a weak link in it's security?

Not as far as i know. I know the factory fitted sunroof in mine well the motor operating it has a heap of power. I've tried to push/pull it a few times and it does not budge at all.

My factory sunroof is not even slightly a weak security point. Even driving on crap roads will not cause the glass to move about. It would be easier to get it through a window (and thats very difficult) than to get in through a sunroof. The glass is tempered too.

Plus I think someone will notice if a gang of youths (or olds as we shouldn't discriminate) were climbing into a car through its roof.

Im also wanting to buy a KJ Xi verada. I just missed out on an MY02 KJ Xi done 90,000 km :( Do KJ Xi verada's come up often? So far the only other one i seem to be able to find in QLD is a 2000 model done 150,000km, which is a bit too high for my liking and im not sure if I should buy it. What does anyone else think? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi Raston.

150k klms is not high for that model. Xi models were 50 grand new. They didn't build lots because no-one was really interested. So finding one is hard, finding a perfect one is harder. The KH has everything the KJ does, save for the newer panels, and the tiptronic. The KJ series 2 is the one you should aim for as it got the better gearbox (5 speed) but these are tempermental and LOVE fluid changes and rebuilds. The series 2 cars also added, the updated instruments, and the power passenger seat.

My KH, which I got at 100,000 klms by memory has just hit 160k. Apart from regular servicing, nothing to report at all. All electrics are flawless generally and highly reliable.

As a tip though, around the 100,000 mark, most of the big stuff will need replacing. Like timing belt, O2 sensors, mufflers etc. So buying a car with a few more klms on it, but with all the stuff already done, is probably a better option.

Hi raston_89

This is the 1 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mitsubishi-Verada-2001-XI-/110569129692?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Cars&hash=item19be6f06dc) my son is buying.
126,000 k's on it, according to Redbook (http://www.redbook.com.au/used-cars/details.aspx?R=86162&__Qpb=true&Cr=1&__Ns=p_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cp_ClassificationType_S tring%7c0%7c%7cp_Family_String%7c0%7c%7cp_Year_Str ing%7c1%7c%7cp_SequenceNum_Int32%7c0&__N=2994%204294949495%204294843001%204294965791&silo=1300&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=6&__sid=12A4C70DFCF3), average is 140,000 - 230,000.
He wasn't actually looking for a rada, just something within his price, & it came up in the 1st (ebay) search, & being rual, not too much traveling for us to look at. So can't really say how often they come up.
Timing belt needs doing, but the womans husband is ex-mitsi mechanic, & he's replacing that in the price :)
