so the car stops and jumps backwards? Sounds like the gearbox is self destructing.

No doesnt stop it keeps going its like a flat spot in acceleration but when its changing gears it would quickly jump backwards then change gears and keep driving normally..
Its stopped now for one reason or another it was only happening yesterday. So ill see how it goes for now

+1. A transmission flush may helps.

Well i took it into a trans place today to a guy i know and he said i most likely will only need a trans flush because old oil in magnas starts to glaze over and makes the gears laggy, so will be buying some genuine mitsi oil on thursday pay day.

dont just dump the sump and fill, most of it is in the torque converter, will need a flush, there is a few threads on it. will need 2 large bottles of the mitsu fluid.

2? Try 4 or 5 depending on the integrity of the fluid.

Drop the sump and look for metal bits, before you waste all that fluid.

So i shouldnt jus dump it and refill? Would i be better off going somewhere and getting them to do a "torque converter" flush? And how much do you think it'd cost me?

You just want a transmission flush. Shouldn't cost more than about $250 at most, just depends on how much fluid they need to use to flush the gearbox.

$20???? no way. he will most likely just take the old oil out and add new oil in without a flush. You need more than $20 worth of tranny fluid just to refill...
I'd go to mitsubishi directly.... They are a bit dearer, but at least they use the proper oil etc and know the cars. Also, its cheaper than a new tranny :D
i had exactly the same problem, i took my car to action transmission in the Gabba, he disconected the battery for 20 mins, to reset the computer, and i added a bottle of wynns transmission treatment, and the problem was fixed straight away, drives like new again, better than it ever has, another transmission place had told me i needed a rebuild at $2500, so happy i didnt get ripped off
