View Full Version : CTS sensor.
Hay all
I removed my old cooland temprature sensor out of my th magna to test a couple of things i end up loosing it. I braught one from a wrecker out of a TJ i know cts do fail but they dont fail commonly? How can i clean the new sensor before i put it back in??
Thanks Kurt
Fitted new sensor. Fans come on at the right time never heats up. But when the cars stationary the fans will stay on and wont turn off but it wont go past the middle. Is this normal?
My TL operates the same way - at 60kph or so, the fans may be on or off depending on heat load on engine, but as soon as the car stops the fans turn on. This seems to happen every time the car stops which makes me think it is not the CTS turning the fans on but the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) turning the fans on to keep a flow of air thru the radiator when the car is stopped..

The fans compensate for lack of airflow through the radiatior. Its quite common and normal for them to run while the car is stationary. However they should only be coming on when the engine is at op temp. At lower speeds (60kph or below) or on hot days they may operate for longer or come on sooner. So you should be just dandy as long as your gauge is just below the middle your set. A warning though, if you have been driving and your car SHOULD be at normal temp but reads cold, pull over cos you might not have any water in your system.
