Want to replace factory stereo with after-market. Done the search & read, but still confused  Also seen a video someone here had done, but buggered if I can find it again :(
My son has just bought this car, & don't want to stuff it up so soon

Got the 2 screws from the back (near floor), the 2 under the coin thingy, & the 2 from just in front of the gear selector (towards dash).
Removed the top wood(plastic)grain panel, the console moves freely, except were it joins the front part.

Also stuck at the ashtray removal. I can pull the actual ashtray out, but can't figure how to get the whole unit out

Please, no "the search button is your friend", done it...for hr's. Where do I go from here?

======================================

And a info/enlightenment question

What's this plug for? Found dirrectly under the cup holder tray.

Cheers :)

Ok, so you need to remove the top air vents.

There will be a cable that runs to a point under the drivers footwell. It needs to be unhooked. It is the cable that is connected to the (fresh/closed) thing on the right hand side of the centre vents. DO NOT lever the centre vents out with a screwdriver. The clips will break. For the cable, get a torch and look under the drivers footwell towards the centre and have another person (or if you can contort - yourself) operate this toggle. you will see the thing the cable is connected to moving. pull it towards the drivers door to unhook.

Secondly the ashtray will unclip if you open the drawer and give the ashtray a short but firm yank. You will see the two screws at the bottom of the stereo woodgrain and once the airvents are out, there will be 2 screws at the top.

Then you can remove the entire fascia with the HU in it.

@ Sparkington.
Man! You're quick. You must've look whilst I was fixing 'em...least I hope they're fixed, I can see them.
Thanks for the info on that plug, handy to know it's there (for future) :)

Remove the air vents. Mitsi sure made it hard *LOL*
Will check it out tomorrow.

So that means the console itself doesn't need to come out?

Nah mate, the only way the ashtray will come out is if the lower woodgrain section of the console is out.
ONLY the woodgrain part. NONE of the tan or brown bits need to come out. :)

As a tip, Mitsubishi have a clip shown in the pics (ring ended thing) that they use to hook the airvents. I bought a long screw driver, cut a notch into it with an angle grinder and then i have an air vent remover too. For about $1.50.

Mitsubishi wouldnt sell me their tools......bastards! haha.

The electrical plug under the console shown in the pics is a 4-pin connector including a blank plug.

It is the "phone kit" connection, with Ground/Earth, Constant 12v, Switched 12v, and Mute wires.
Mute is blue wire and runs to a small subsidiary plug at the back of the OEM Head-Unit..... this may be useful if your after-market Head Unit has a Phone Mute function.

Otherwise, I have found this connector handy for running some wires back to near the Console Oddment Bin and having a 12v power socket there. In my cars, I also ran a toggle switch allowing me to make the additional/concealed power socket to switch between constant 12v or switched 12v (this allows me to, say, lock a phone handset in the car and still have it recharging the phone battery at times).

YeeHaa...all done :)
Only 1 little mishap with the fascia, but can't be noticed once it's all back together

Thanks for the pics mcs_xi :)
Was figuring there must've been a clip or such on either side of the vent/s. Once I seen your design, the penny dropped. Only meant to grab the vent from behind, to make removal easy :)

Thanks also to not only those who've posted in this thread, but also those who posted in other threads to do with this job :) :) :)
