really you could put as big as you want but if you want practicality no bigger then 18s as youd just be painting tyres on 1st gens run a lower profile already then other gens
im running 215/45 on 17s and its fine and a common profile used to run 205/40s but wasnt a nice ride

guards would porlly feel every bump if you had 17s" or more..

i have 17's on mine with 205-40-17 i think have no issues at all rides smooth and no scrubbing!

the only issues i had had with the 17s was when i had ultra lows in the rear with more then 2 people in the car the tyres would scrub the outer part of the rear gard because its not a nice 'round' outer but that was soon fixed cos you smooth it out, but i end going back to lows as it was too much of a bitch to drive over things lol
but it all comes down to the offset rim width and ride height if you pick any thing over +38 - 36 youll run in to issues in the rear even if its not lowered cos its not an open gard

yeah mine are +42 and it comes very close
