View Full Version : High Quality Cabling
I'm looking at installing my audio setup soon and was wondering what kind of cabling i should buy. I Will eventually be running 2 12" subs, 1/2 monoblocks, 1 4 channel amp and my carputer. Is there a certain brand/ type etc I should look for?

We need power/amp ratings. If they are low power 12's 4 gauge should be sufficient, but if you plan to upgrade in the near future you can beat a single run of 0gauge.
As for quality
Stinger is a good brand for quality although very expensive so if its nothing fancy then dont worry about that.
Aerpro is readily available and very good and i use it myself.
US Audio do a nice 4gauge kit with braided power wire (meaning if cut correctly it doesn't fray easily).
KNU Konceptz is very popular because they are DIRT CHEAP and have a nice range (only down sides are that they are overseas but you still save alot of money after importing it, and their cheaper stuff is CCA {Copper Coated Aluminium} so not real copper but if you dont have too much power it will do the trick.
How does audio power cable compare to offcuts of industrial power cable/earthing cable?

Audio cable is mutli strand cable so it very fleixable as where power cable is stiff and can be smaller. In the end it depends what cable size and type of offcuts :D
Multi strand about 12-15mm inner diameter, still flexible enough. I don't think there should be any problems, Its not for carrying signal or anything. 4-5m long offcuts...

TiMi, Although your assumptions that 12 volt will work on 240v wire is correct, and it is possible to use it for this purpose there are some issues to consider.
Not all 240 volt wire will handle the amount of current and usually too stiff to survive in an automotive application for an extended period.
Wire designed to be installed in a building, and used in a mobile application, will break prematurely due to having a small number of thick wires as opposed to good automotive wire which is composed of many fine strands which make the cable flexible and able to survive in a mobile application. I hope this helps.
nothing wrong with good ole welders flex. except of course for the friggin painful copper splinters you get from it!
but considering you can get 0ga equivelent for about $11/m, well worth the splinters :)
Has anyone tried the DNA cabling from shoopingsecure?

I bought Knu Konceptz stuff from the US. Very well priced and MUCH better quality than the stuff over here!! Their fuse holders are solid as a rock too!
I bought the 'flex' stuff (0 guage), Its extremely flexable! Like a wet noodle!! (And heavy too lol) I love mine :)
PS: See my magna thread for pics... Page 3 I think

I just wired a car with the Vibe Flatlines Kit. Very interesting putting in flat wiring.
Easy to work with and really does hide under the carpet well.
Highly recommended.

Samm the DNA stuff is pretty much on par with the Aerpro stuff.
always been keen to install with some of that Mr C, but the price and the fact that ive always got hoards of cable lying around held me back from getting any :P

It is very good Woob. The speaker cable and RCA's are well worth a look.
I installed the 4ga kit and the 4ga power is still nice and thick ( of course ) so the "flatness" doesn't help much lol.
I love the idea of the fast plug, pity it is only rated to 80A but...
I do know what you mean about price, the better 4ga kit is approx $200...
Thanks guys, will be hooking everything up soon :D
