Ok so here is the deal myself and a fellow member had to change the tiing belt on my 05 TW we followed the instructions we had but now we have no starting car the instructions said that aslong as we didnt move the cam...crank etc we didnt need to line the timing marks up....now we know this is wrong

this is where I need help/confirmation as I know it this is what we need to do
1 rotate cams till the mark on the spocket matches the v notch in the head on both sides.
2 make sure we have top dead centre on the compression stroke of the No. 1 cylinder and line the crank mark up with the block (I take it cylinder #1 is the front side on the let hand side of the 3?
3 put belt back on put it all back together
4 start car

Please tell me this is right or if not where im going wrong.

I assume you have already removed the timing belt? If not, I would suggest timing your engine with the covers off. Use the crank pully as a guide. If your are just changing the belt use a Cam gear lock which is just a device that locks the cam gears in place and stops them rotating. Or you can just use a bit of white out to make your own marks. But all this has to be done with the engine timed and the belt on.

Well, at the very least you have learned a valuable lesson. Always time your engine prior to belt removal. Have you double checked your timing by removing your top belt covers and lining the crank on TDC to see whether the marks are lined up? Keep in mind however that the crank with show TDC but the cams will show two different positions depending on whether or not the engine is about to go into the intake stroke or the exhaust stroke. TDC prior to intake stroke is true TDC. Hope this helps.

Best bet is to remove the upper manifold, remove rocker covers, loosen rockers off all together so as no pressure on valves at all

Rotate engine by hand until 2 top marks line up, check the crank is on tdc. Dont worry about compression stroke and that BS as when #1 is at top, it is the cam location which determines if the cyl will be on an intake stroke or a combustion stroke. If not lined up you can safely take off the belt and line it all up

The reason for the above method is so when you rotate either the complete engine or just the cam, you do not risk opening a valve onto a piston

Hopefully you have not done any damage to the valves in trying to start it allready.

#1 BTW is closest to the brake master cyl
