Hi guys in my TF Magna Wagon I had the wrong oil filter on it and it was leaking. i noticed that the oil light was coming on and off when i started driving the car. So i just done a oil change again and replaced the filter to the proper one and put new oil in it. but now the light still comes on and when i drive or go over bumps it flashes off and on.
I degreased the underneath of the body to get rid of all the old oil etc. And its got me stumped..??
What should I check/ do??
Thanks in advance :)

if the sump oil level is correct , it may mean that the single wire going to the oil pressure switch is rubbing on something , causing a short circuit to earth , bringing on the light.

i just checked through the engine bay to check for any open curcuits etc couldnt find anything. so im guessing that the oil pressure switch itself is faulty. Ill try a new one tomorrow and see what happens.

Well i fitted a new oil pressure sensor and the light still comes on when i start the car and once its warm or just before i get to work while driving it goes out. there is no blue smoke coming out the exhaust. so im guessing there maybe a problem with the motor??
When the rain goes away im going to pull the plugs out and squirt some oil down the tube then crank it over then refit the plugs and try that.
but man this bloody car always gives me problems

if you disconnect the oil sender for a couple of days , does the light stay off and never come on?
I reckon magna 3.0l and 3.5l are one of the most reliable

when the oil sender is unplugged it goes off.

here a update of what iv just done. pulled the plugs out cleaned them and poured a small dripple of oil down the tubes, cranked it over and replaced the plugs. started it up and the light still on........ grrrrrr :headbangewell

ok, what logic led you to think dribbling oil down the plug tubes would fix the oil light problem?
Either the oil pressure sender is stuffed, or you have a short in the wiring somewhere, or you really do have low oil pressure.
Get an oil pressure gauge that has adaptors that fit into the sender hole, and read the pressure. Manual tells you what it should be. You either have a short somewhere or your engine is in poor health.
Light going on and off when you go over bumps strongly suggest a short in the sender wire somewhere.

I also fail to see any relevance between spark plugs and oil pressure, is a bit like changing your tyres because your washer bottle is empty
First thing you need to do is check the actual pressure with a pressure guage. Once this is done and you can confirm that you have not got oil pressue issues you will then need to check all of the wiring back to the light. If the pressure if fine then it is clearly a wiring issue

well its not a sort curcuit. I beleive its in the motor itself. iv changed the sensor twice and still the same so its not that.warm the car is very warm the light finally goes away. and thinking about the last oil change i done 3-4 weeks ago i ran engine flush through it. and then dumped all the oil over night. use 10-30 as thats what the mitsi place said to use.
Do you think it could have been someting to do with the engine flush i put through? may have loosen dirt up and wasnt drained out and now clogging up a oil track or something??

Dude. The short might not be in the sensor but the WIRE TO THE SENSOR. In this case, changing the sensor wont do much of anything.
You need to get the wire, and follow back to see if its contacting anywhere. The only way to know, as the others have said, is to put a manual pressure gauge on it and check it. Otherwise your just wasting your own time. Its called process of elimination. Check the wire properly, dont just assume and do a manual oil pressure check, or have someone do it for you.

would i be able to put through anothe rbottle of engine flush and flush the engine again. and start from stratch. also wat i have noticed since the oil pressure light has come on is that the lifter have become noisey again. im guessing blocked lines??

What oil are you using?

Find an oil pressure gauge, with the round dial and a needle, not just the sender unit, to see what the pressure is. If it reads low, the engine has low oil pressure. If it reads fine, then its likely an electrical fault in the wiring between the engine and oil light.

well the vehicle has no oil pressure 5-6 psi so it looks like im in for a new motor. what the 2l motors like out of the galants? My wreaker mate said they are the same as the 2.4 magnas just 2l. of course itll have just a little less power but will be more economical. i dont care if its not as powerfull as the 2.4 its just a slammed cruiser for me.

Witht eh 2l it will most likely use more fuel as the engine will work a lot harder to get the same result
Where are you located, you state in your profile international but I was under the assumption that AU only got the 2.4l cars
