Hi Guys,

Been a while since I posted. I guess my car hasn't acted up much since

Any ways, the other day I drove my TE pretty hard (floored pedal etc). Wasn't for too long, maybe 2 mins on hard inter-street driving. Anyways, I pulled up pretty hard and parked the car and noticed a constant clicking sound. Initially I thought my lifters had finally failed but wasn't sure whether lifters cause that constant rattling noise due to hard driving.

Car cooled down, turned it on and the rattle wouldn't stop, drove for about 2 mins (normally) noise went away. Was all smile until about a week down the line was heading for an overtake, floored it and pulled over at a set of lights and noticed the clicking again. Normal driving it went away :S

Any ways, on Saturday I topped up my oil approximately (2 litres - Nulon) - its due for service next week (will put Penrite then) but it was rather low so had no choice. I know somethings not right, when the engines cold the lifters rattle for about 3 - 4 mins so those are just a matter of time.

You think the rattle from pushing the car hard and lifters are related? & secondly, i'm contemplating starting to save for the lifters...but that would be almost the cost of a second hand engine refitted i'm I right? Need some options...

haha If it was easy as that (for me), I'm sure I would have done that as soon as the problem occurred. Unfortunately I don't work on my car as much as most of you but I do like keeping it in good health. I was hoping for a bit of direction from someone with similar experiences or alternatives which I can speak to my mechanic about?

Who said a rebuild was easy? OK, either one or more of the lifters have given up, or the car is running on low oil pressure. It needs to be looked at by a competent mechanic who can diagnose the noises and suggest where to go next. He may suggest an oil pressure check first up.

Last time I had this problem was with a Holden red motor, flooring it with low oil level meant an engine rebuild, ran a big end bearing. No bull.

mmm...I thought it was that much. Even if the lifters are giving up its going to cost me as much as a rebuild isn't it? Friend sourced a lexus engine plus labour for 1.8K if i'm not mistaking. Lifter problem quote was 1.5k :( - I did put some oil and since the cars going to the mecs in the next 2 weeks hopefully he can give me a way forward.
