Took my 380 to Southern Mitsubishi in Brighton Victoria today.

Told them I think the headlight is faulty as the clip holding the globe in has popped out (for the second time in 2 years). I asked them to look at it and replace the headlight globes.

They work on the car and the bill comes to $130 - for labour plus 2 headlight globes.

I am happy to pay for new globes - but I think the time they spent fixing the clip (included removing the bumper) is a warranty issue. They said it isn't covered by warranty as the car was 'altered' or 'worked on' as the clip was not secure.

My argument is that the clip was not put in correctly from the factory - how is it my fault that a small part in the headlight keeps falling out!?

The highlight of the conversation was the dealer grabbing my keys and saying "legally you can't take the car unless you pay"- but they would drop the bill to $92.

What great customer service! Way to go Southern Mitsubishi.

I had the opposite experience with my local Mitsu dealer (the mob I bought the car from).

As posted up in one of the threads here, one of my after-market replacement low beam globes blew, I tried to replace it with the stock globe and I had no end of trouble with the dodgy clip. I accidentally pulled it right out and bent it a bit.

Took the car to the dealer the next day, and the bloke behind the service counter took the clip into the workshop and got it straightened out, then fitted it & the globe for me.

No charge at all.

A couple of weeks later I went back to the dealer with new Philips Extreme Power +80 globes and asked the same bloke if he wouldn't mind fitting them for me. He wasn't too impressed but he did it anyway, took him about 15 minutes, again no charge at all.

It's not all good news with this dealer though, their chief mechanic is a bit of a know it all, and doesn't believe a mug punter like me might know something about 380s.

So I'll be going to a different dealer for the timing belt change in 25k time.

In my experience it's not the dealer as such, it's the personnel. Some give good customer service, some don't.

KJ.

@rpodrive- next time you believe you have a warranty claim do yourself a favour.

Ask the direct question..."Will you repair this under warranty at no cost to me?"

Make them commit there and then.

It is always my first question, I also give them no authority to incur any costs without my approval by phone.
