Just thought you guys would be interested to know that the ECU doesn't tell the speedo how many k's the car has done.

I've just swapped the ECU with my spare one and the speedo k's remained the same.

So the odometer is contained in the speedo and not the ECU...:D

(but all the other stuff reset itself...average fuel, speed alert etc)d a

I know with my TF its all in the spedo cause its the manual flipping shit, so obviously yours is digitally displayed? Thats cool, i would have thought it would be stored away from the spedo..

yes the dash has the KM's not the ECU no car retains the KMs in the ecu But that would be a good thing if it did for dodgy car yards or people reselling cars

i was told by eddy wreckers that the km reading is stored in 3 locations. Apparently cabbies were buying secondhand instrument clusters to keep within warranty mileage but when went to mitsubishi got told that kms are stored in 2 other locations.
I looked into this because i jump started my car the other day and the speedo increased kms by 90,000 kms. I went to 2 mitsubishi dealers and they just were laughing at me in the inside i could tell and told me its impossible.
WELL IT DEFINETLY IS POSSILE AS IT HAPPENED TOO ME. Maybe ive got a hot tub 380 time machine , i dont know but its really annoying as i will no hope of selling the car now unless i can sort it out with a dealer

i dont think it registers the kms but it a lot of newer cars will register that the cluster has been changed. like terry says its for warranty puposes so if the car goes back to a dealer they will question why the clusters been changed.

I'll put it succinctly.

Eddy knows his magnas, but stuff all about 380's....that's been my experience.

(fact is noone knows much about 380's....not even the mitsubishi service dept)

i think i might have to get a new cluster and ask the dealer to wind the kays forward , as they dont want to wind kays back. Would be good if there was OBD2 software for fixing it

the 380 responds in some unpredictable ways when there is a voltage spike, it seems. lol Wife's 2004 Lancer has a digital odometer/tripmeter, hasn't put a foot wrong. Have changed the battery but haven't jump started it. lol

When was it last serviced? If it was recent and it can be proven that it is impossible to do 90000 extra kms then they should look into it. When I had a stuffed ODO in my old TP (the 100 thousand digit was moving at the same rate as the 10 thousand digit). I went to an auto instrument palce (VDO) and they told me to bring the most recent service receipt which shows the odo. They then fitted new cogs and set it correctly.

The other location that the odo reading is stored is in what's called the "front ecu".

It's located in the fuse box next to guard on passemger side under bonnet.....

Looked in my box of spares...Looks like I have one just laying around doing nothing....:)
