Just bought a 380 - 20,000km old S3 VRX.

I want to lower it, and the above combo looks just right, but I'm concerned about ride quality.

Does the above combination ruin the ride quality, or just tighten it up to more sporty ride?

(I'm going to add the adjustable swaybar also)

EDIT : Alternately, what about superlows all round?

Wheels will be 18 inch ROH Directors with 45 series rubber.

Car is going to be used by wifey to ferry about our new twins some of the time, so it can't be a rock hard ride.

We currently drive a DSG TDI Golf which is has a relatively sporty ride - so if they tighten the car up to a level simialr to sporty hatchback it's not a problem.

Cheers guys,

Sean, Adelaide.

Not sure if Ultra Lows are avail, I know the SL is not listed in the Kings book but I can get them no worries, have 2 sets here on the shelf

I know a few members have SL in the 380, it does not effect the ride quite as much as it does in a third gen as the 380 has a little more travel to start with but with the wheels you are looking at you will find that the ride will be fairly harsh with the SL, the Ultra Lows, if avail, would be very harsh and I would be surprised if you have any travel at all left in the front end so not ideal

If you want me to follow up with Kings let me know and I will see what I can find out for you

Kings as far as I know don't do Ultralows for the 380. I reckon if you got them custom made they would be pretty rough as you wouldn't have any suspension travel in the front.

The Superlows all round ride nice, firm but not too firm. The front will look quite high compared to the rears though. If you want better with adjustable hieght & dampening go a set of coilovers like me.

I've had Kings superlows front & lows rear with 17s, 18s, 19s and now 20s, each time going down a tyre profile (50 then 45 then 35 then 30), and they're not at all harsh. And that's with the front strut brace and the Selby 26mm rear sway bar on the middle setting. With 18s & 45 profile tyres you shouldn't have any problems at all. With superlows in the rear as well as the front you might have some tyre clearance issues, and it will look a little bit uneven - lower at the back than the front.

Fixed it for you, 36mm would be a bit large lol

As KJ said it won't be a harsh ride, I had 35 series now on 40's with coilovers & still not harsh just firm. The 45's should be quite comfortable.

Thanks, yep 36mm would be like having a girder across the back end!

Ah - Just realised I've botched my terminology.

I meant superlows.

Cheers for the info boys

In that case lows rear & superlows front with the 45 series tyres won't upset wifey at all, in fact she probably won't notice the difference lol

we have a similar combo on our sx ultra low fronts and super lows back.Ride quality is good, only problem is the bottom of the front bar scrapes on a lot of things

I have kings lows all round. I could not go lower in the front around here. I have already scraped and hit the front bar several times

380's must be a bit better than the 3rd gens for sure. I remember Scotty had SL's put in his TL VRX with the stock shocks and stock tyres (225/50/17 I think?) and god it rode like rubbish.
