what issues etc would i run into by removing my 4g64 out of my TF wagon and replaing it with a 4g63 in out of the 8th gen galants? the reason for this is that i have no oil pressure in my 2.4 tf wagon and a mate that works at a wreaker said he can do me a mean deal on a 2l motor out of a galant that will fit straight in.'

I know ill loose a lil bit of power which doesnt bother me as its only a low and slow cruiser.
and on the other hand it'll be a bit more economical.

Erm mate, if anything you will LOSE economy because the smaller engine has to work harder to do the same job. I would rethink it if I were you and either fix your existing or replace it like for like.
Or I can do you a wild deal on a V6 complete with near everything for the conversion LOL
But seriously, I'd stick with like for like.

Luvmymitzy, I gather you are wrecking a car at the moment?

OP, where are you located, I did ask this previously, if you are in AU then you are better off getting a 2.4 or a 3.5 or similar and changing over. The 2.4 is at a stretch just big enough for a Magna due to its size and weight, anything smaller natural induction, then I would not do it at all

Wouldn't it be cheaper to look at your current engine to see why it lost oil pressure? It might be an easy fix. The 2.4 has to work hard to move the Magna, I wouldn't go any smaller. Your wrecker mate is just trying to sell you an engine.

What gave it away MadMagna????
Take the advice Slammed, these guys are in the know.
FTR, how do you KNOW your engine has an oil pressure problem or are you just assuming?

ok i mite go see the bank and get a 2.4 and do it so its all mint. LuvMyMitzy i had done everthing checking for the reason why my oil pressure light was coming on and then chucked a oil pressure gauge on and there was no pressure at all we even took out the sender unit and no oil came flowing out. So the oil pump is gone. the only reason i ask this question about the 2l is that for a complete engine is only $200 and for a magna 2.4l is $750 +gst.

I know of a mint 2.4 complete car (minus rear window) going for a song. It drove like a dream. I reckon you could pick it up for about 500 or less complete car the guy was pretty desperate to be rid of it.
The body was rubbish (lots of hail dings) but engine and tranny was sound.

Its far too early to worry about what engine to put in your car or the $$ it might cost, until you find out what is wrong with the current engine. Get some tools. Rip into it. Find out what is wrong. TuffTR had the same problem, turned out to be that the oil pickup has come lose, did he junk that engine and agonize over what to put in the car instead?

hey mad max. we ripped the engine apart and checked everything and cleaned out from the pick up pressure valve etc. the oil pumpp is shot and oil that i dumped was metallic with metal shavings inside so i take it that the bearing are shot iswell/ on there way out. were've spent the last 2 weeks checking and trying things out. and our conclussion is that that the motor needs an overhaul

yes but he could get a 3l Mivec for about the same price as his stock motor. Not many people know much about the Mivec, and its not sold at a premium.

Thread pruned... I know the prospect of importing a MIVEC engine is pretty exciting but it does nothing to answer the OP's question.
