Went out to the northern u pull it over the weekend, found 4 GT's inc a GT wagon and 3 Elante's...
Sad days because it shows that even the 'more attractive' models are now just throw away.
Although, after getting back in my 135km GT sedan... dont think i could ever scrap a nice one!!
I got a rare Blue bonnet for one of mine, white boot with spoiler for another... pitty, the wheels that were there were all in good order with good tyres and i wouldve also grabbed the blue boots with spoilers and front bars with spoilers... but im coming to my senses and acknowledging theres just no point nowadays... unfortunately!!
Alex.

Yep, its a shame, but you have to be practical. Once a car gets to 20 or 25 years of age, you have to cut your losses. Things like timing chains and worn engine bearings aren't worth doing up in such an old car. First genners were prone to rust as well, unlike the 2nd and 3rd genners. Of course, if its a special car, like the first or last of a model, it may be worth doing up and parking permanently in a garage or museum. The Birdwood Mill motor museum (near Adelaide) has some Magnas in it IIRC. Lots of second gen Magnas at the Northern u-pull-it too, some third gens are starting to appear. Such is progress.
Must go and have a look tomorrow.

I hate scrapping cars, why has society become a throw away society, why can't company makes a product that last more than it warranty, it becoming sadder and sadder as I grow up in this new world. I hate change, hence why I like old cars more :)

If you want to make some money, how about stripping some of those front lips and shipping them to me...!
I'm serious!
Also, the rear trim that goes from the wheel to before the bumper.
On another note, it saddens me also, but as it is inevitable, I simply cherish the fact I look after my wagon, and one day it WILL become an uncommon car that people Might appreciate.
No guarantee, not a great history, but I will at-least.

I just like having car that the public no longer wants like my 3 first gens, 1 second gen and my 2 third gens I enjoy being a car back from the scrape heap and turn it into a nice car not for money or to resell it just for the love of cars

Damn that's a shame to see :( It took me months of searching U-Pull-It (both yards) to finally get a full elante kit for my old TP, but now jeez, there's heaps!!

Such is progress. I gave up looking for gen2 clocks, too scarce and going for $50 each. Then a spate of gen 2s appeared at u-pull-it and I scored 2 clocks at $7 each. Just a waiting game to get the bits you want, most of the time lol
+++ RIP JPS +++
I wonder if any with the woodgrain steering wheels will start appearing there in 10 years...

the worst thing is many cars end up there for the sake of 3 painless that were smashed in a shopping park. i saw a crash the other day between a new astra and an old toyota corona and immediately felt sorry for the old corona because ide bet ill see it next time i travel to the local wreckers even thought it was in very good condition.
much worse it when cars that are 70% complete are crushed because they have sat at the wreckers for over 1 year. there were 5 magnas crushed last month and one had a fully recco engine i was told. the bloke at the wreckers who likes me wanted to put it aside for me but hadn't seen me for a while so it went.
shame becuase now my engine looks like its on the way out!
