Hello people I'm new round these parts

I have a 2002 Verada GTV that is a little rough around the edges but has a full service history and drives fairly smoothly. The cambelt tensioner has started grumbling on cold start the grumble disappears after it heats up. The car is due a service in October
however with the cambelt noise I'm considering bringing the 200k service forward. Is the cambelt tensioner noise I sign of impending belt failure?

Also what are people thoughts on a full gearbox flush..........is it worth doing and does it make a noticeable difference to gearbox performance.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to AMC

If you want to book in, I can give the car a good once over and let you know what needs to be done and also check the belt tension etc for you

There is no harm in bringing the service forward, the belt should be done every 5 or so years anyway

Firstly, welcome!

I myself have a 2001 Verada Ei that seems to be doing the same exact sort of thing, and honestly, with my car having 185,xxx kms atm, I'm doing the same what you're thinking about.
Just waiting for the funds to clear so I can give Mal a call myself and book it.

I may take you up on your offer, where in Victoria are you located?

Also forgot to add that the fuel gauge is playing up..........is this an easy fix?

I wouldn't worry too much about the idler pulley noise - shouldn't be any risk of losing the belt. It's worth flushing the transmission fluid - extends the box life & improves shift quality (obviously depending on the condition of the stuff that's in there already). Use genuine Mitsu fluid - it's pretty cheap & apparently the best for the gearbox.

Definitely worth getting Mal to look over it. He's helped me a lot over the past year or so with my GTV - can't recommend him highly enough.
