I made a post in the car audio section but thought i might get a better response here:

Hi guys, don't know if anyone has got this combination but I had a 3Gs working and charging on my 380 VRX with the OEM Mitsu iPod kit (from the US) and the charge adapter (so the iPhone charged aswell - From Ebay) and it worked a treat charging my 3Gs and listening through my playlists through the stock system.

I now have an iP4 and when I plug it in it says it charges for around a minute and then the symbol goes to the wall plug. I can still access the music and play the music through the system but it wont charge my iP4. Like the battery could be at 50% when I plug it in and it will say its charging for like 1 minute then the wall plug icon will appear on the phone and no more charge will go into the phone.

Anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know why? will I need a new charge adapter?

There's a few bugs in OS 4 at the moment with alot of head units doing this and similar things.

A few fixes i've heard is to unplug it when it stops charging, and plug it back in and then it works as normal.

Tried that and every time same thing.

Forgot to say iP4 is running iOS 4.0.1
My 3Gs is running iOS 4.0 and it is still working and charging

iOS 4.0.1 is basically the same as iOS 4.0 but with the different signal bar algorithm and a different exchange timeout value
and
iOS 4.0.2 is the same as iOS 4.0.1 but with the PDF exploit patched

So really regardless of iOS version, if it was the OS both phones should now not charge, but the 3Gs does and the 4 doesnt

Just want to see other iP4 uses with the OEM iPod kit and what their experience is.

Ah ok must be a different issue then, because from what i've heard this affected all iphones running os 4, not just the iphone 4.

Good luck :).

I had to get a inline charge convertor thing when I got my latest touch for the 380 kit as it wouldn't charge. I have a 3gs about 6 months old, I'll try it next time I'm in the car & see if that maybe the problem. The touch works fine now with this adaptor.

yeah thats the same inline charger adaptor I have, been working fine for 6 months on the 3Gs

I think the iP4 might have a slightly different config or something

Ok have you tried using your 3gs charger on the 4 to confirm that it maybe a different pin out configuration? I'll be upgrading to a 4 in the next couple of months so would like to know if there is a problem.

yeah I have and there is no problem via the comp or charger

I recon its the adapter myself, but before replacing it I wanted to see if anyone had encountered this problem

I am just about to upgrade, just finished contract for iphone 3g, was trying to make up my mind whether I want to go for a HTC desire, the HD ones should be out soon, or to go for an iphone 4.

The main thing that may swing me for or against the HTC is the adapter for the 380 stereo. Does anyone know if they have one for the 380, like the iphone one?

If not, I think they just got the iphone 4 in stock as I have already ordered it, just waiting on delivery. :facejump:

yeah its pretty annoying, my 07 alpine head unit doesnt charge mine, playlists dont work, its pretty much just a line out, text and song control. The plug doesnt fit with the bumper case either. I have bought a $12 radio transmitter from ebay so will see how that goes.

Actually that might be a better option. Just get your standard charger and a FM transmitter and go with the HTC. Would work well with NAV software too.

I think the HTC HD phone has a huge 4.5 in screen too, so really struggling to justify the iphone atm.

I'll be getting the tom tom dock and app so will have music, nav guidance and calls streamed through the radio, to need to use the head unit controls, works perfectly through the phone.

That sound pretty promising.

Seems the HTC Desire is excelusive to Telstra. << Although I work for them at the moment, I hate them enough to wait for it to come to another provide, or just go the iPhone 4.

You will have to import it from the US as a Galant accessory. Found it here http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=783288&siteid=214331&catalogid=5507

I have a feeling I had to order another adaptor cable with the 6 cd stacker but can't find it. If you haven't got the 6 cd stacker all is good.

I'll try & dig up the original invoice & give you both part numbers to order, I'm sure there was another adaptor cable thing with the 6 CD stacker.

Foozrcool can you post a pic of you this setup n your card - do you have the phone holder?

Foozrcool
26-10-2010, 05:38 PM
It all installs behind the headunit, all you see is the iphone connector which is currently in my glovebox.

I did have a touch & have just bought a holder setup but am yet to install it. I thought my iphone 4 would be useless for calls if in the glovebox lol

If you're after a no hole install kit/holder let me know & I'll dig up the website where I got my 380 one from.
