Hey Guys...

Well tonight i was driving home and i went through a bad pothole that i couldn't avoid..

Immediately after the pothole I noticed that my check battery light came on, so i proceeded to pull over and check it out.. Opened the engine bay and fiddled with all the Alt plugs etc, I then checked the battery voltage whilst charging and it was at a beautiful 13.9V so i figured that i had fixed it, i then jumped in the car and drove off... however the light was still on..

then about 2 kms down the road it just turned off...

then it came on again for about 2-5 mins another 2 times....

Any ideas as to what this could be?, not im not sure if the pothole has anything to do with it as it may be a coincidence

Thanks guys!

It a stuff alt, I had to get a recon alt as I had this problem before. If you hit the alt with a hammer this will turn off your battery light lol That how you know it stuff it a highly technial test that has located many faults in my life lol

Could be the impact displaced the brushes on the regulator if they were close to being worn out. This would mean it might be making contact intermittently. Also could be the plugs on the alt have some crap in them that the pothole displaced causing poor contact.
Both scenarious are unlikely but you just never know sometimes. I would start with the easy stuff first. Check the plugs on the alt AND that you battery terminals are actually on tight and making good contact. Maybe give it all a bit of a quick clean just to be safe.
Then go from there

now, replacing the brushes is cheap and simple. Later, the voltage regulator and possibly the diodes will be stuffed due to the on/off behaviour of the alternator. If it is a Bosch, you can pull out the regulator with the brushes and replace them yourself with a soldering iron. Most car parts shops have them. If it is not a DIY job see a motor electrician.
