Has anyone tried this? On the weekend I finally got around to taking my shiny new splits out of the box that they arived in 2 months ago  I've installed the woofers ok and mounted the crossovers and I figured the tweeters would be as easy as taking the old factory tweeters off their brackets and somehow attaching the new ones.. only it seems like the brackets are actually part of the factory tweeters. :headbange and none of the supplied brackets are going to help me make these things sit nicely.

So my question.. has anyone mounted after market splits in the door sail pods as found in the TJ Sports/VR-X? If so, how?

I was actually going to ask this very question myself in the not too distant future. I would love to know this also....

I mounted some aftermarket splits in my TJ exec - I used alpine splits, with a 1" tweeter, held in with some araldite, and some bog to keep in there for good - looks completly stock.

I bought some of the sail mounts for IIRC $14 for the pair (sans speakers) and used these.

If you are removing your stock tweeters I would be interested in purchasing as I fried one of the alpine ones :(

They arent apart of it.

Unscrew them from the door, turn them over and bend back the clip holding the wires, then use a flathead screwdriver to pry the tweeter from the metal. They are just glued to the metal.

Then just araldite or hot glue your tweeters to the metal bracket, screw back into the mount and voila.. done!

Right you are, Mr Bain :bouncin: I just snapped one of the brackets off its speaker only moments ago. Many thanks.

I still get the feeling the new speakers are taller than the factory jobbies, especially since the Bostons come with a grille.. might have to try and pry the grille away - that should shorten them by 2 or 3mm.

You should be able to take them appart from the grille. I just used double sided tape to hold mine to the brackets, works fine.
