Basically as the title says, does anyone know if the rear muffler itself is any different on the AWD VR-X, or if its simply the piping that differs to the standard FWD model?

Cheers.

Without geting the exact measurements from you to compare the 2, I think it'd be reasonable to consider that the 2 mufflers would be identical. If you can measure your muffler, I'll compare it to the FWD VRX one I have here.

I'll measure it up in daylight and PM you. Cheers Al.

Your best solution would probably be an AWD TJ Sports muffler, wouldn't require any modification on the tip end to get it to fit.

By that you mean the flange at the rear axle? I'm not fussed on that front, just want to know if the actual muffler and first say few inches of pipe are the same.

What are you trying to achieve Lugo? Is your's stuffed & you're wanting to swap it with a FWD one?

Hey Lugo.

If you are asking if a FWD and AWD muffler are different then yes, they are very different.

Intake pipes ate totally different and the hangers are also in a totally different place.
There is a bit of messing around to be done if you do want to use a FWD muffler on an AWD as i have. More to do with getting it to hang correctly to look straight etc..

What he's asking is whether the actual bare mufflers are any different, minus all hangers, pipes, etc - in which case, I would doubt it.

There's nothing wrong with the muffler on the car, just have a couple of ideas in my mind, and I'd need an identical muffler to work it out. Mounting points don't bother me, as long as the inlet and outlet sizes are the same, and the muffler itself, anything else can be made to suit.

Edit: When I say inlet and outlet, I mean off the muffler, I don't care about the piping to the axle, I'm aware thats different, I wouldn't need that part anyway.

if you are thinking of a dual exhaust, i'm not sure if there is ample space for the factory muffler on the other side

The muffler box or can itself is the same in so far as inlet and outlet and size

As Nigel stated the hangers and pipework are the part that is different but if that does not worry you then you will not have any issues getting one fitted up
