 are they all kicker? that would sound great. should have a very nice sound stage. are there factory mounting locations for the 4" dash speakers? how about the doors,.. i'd say it should all fit pretty well, only obsticle would prolly be magnet sizes, but i haven't had a look into a 2nd gen dash B4

Good luck, it's not hard, but give yourself time, and don't forget to test which way the positive and negative wires hook up before you put everything together again, else you'll hear out of phase and it sounds weird. Give yourself time and don't rush it. I haven't done the dash before, not sure how hard it is, but the door and rear parcel shelf shouldn't be too hard, maybe 30-45min each.

Luck.

Believe me, compared with running wires through door grommets, +ve and -ve wires are the least of your problems lol

They should be marked either on the wire or on some paper work that came with the speakers.. e.g. With the Bostons I installed on the weekend the wire with the writing on it is the +ve wire.

I think you'll have a serious problem installing the 4" speakers to your dash, that is a tricky one as i think you need to remove the dash. Well thats what i was told when i had my TS so i just put a set of 6" into the doors instead.

With your mp3 deck you might want to see if it has a hi pass filter, and if it dosent think about upgrading to one that does, it helps reduce distortion with 4's in the setup. (I learned something when i bought mine)

Um, in my 1996 KS the 6x9's went into the parcel shelf just fine. but then again i got a pro to do my install.

i reckon if i could figure out how to pull the parcel shelf out.... unscrew the silver thing that screws the stock speakers in then they would go in fine

tis all trial and error im just a real NOOB lol cheers to myself for trying tho, it's all about learning

like i said before, you should have a 'stereo install day' where all those who wanna screw up your car come along and pretend they know what they're doing but they're really just messing up your car so when you have a crash its like standing on a coke can........ :P

Its all a learning curve. How will you learn anything if you don't give it a go yourself???

Everytime you break something you realise not to do that again lol. In my old 2.4 I broke EVERYTHING lol so when i was working on the VRX i could strip everything appart quickly, easily and break free :D

Use a right angled screwdriver, there's no need to remove the parcel shelf.

She's running 4" along with 6" in the fronts, so high passing the whole front stage at the head unit is going to kill bass to the 6"s... Better off to run inline capacitors on the 4" speakers to block the bass. I'm not sure how she's running 3 pairs of speakers off a head unit with no amp, but I presume the 4" and 6" will be running off the front channels (somehow).

Replacing the 4" dash speakers are extremely easy. All you need to do is pry the grille out using a small flathead screwdriver.

Although i just realised that you have a KS, so that means you have the 6.5" speakers on your doors, meaning there is probably nothing in the 4" dash mounts?????

If thats the case, there might not be any wiring at all ( i could be wrong, i dont have a Verada), which means you'll need to put in wiring yourself.

Regarding the inline capacitor issue, it is highly recommended you put one (or something similar) in, it acts as a high pass filter, ie. allowing only high(er) frequencies to pass through, and stopping the bass frequencies. The reason for this is 4" speakers have a high tendency to distort because they weren't meant to handle low bass for such small things.

You may want to buy a passive crossover instead (which is basically a capacitor inside anyway, but is premade and stuff...) or an active 2-way crossover.

Hey,

To mount the rear 6x9's you do need to remove the 6" template thats there to hold the 6"
factory speakers. Once thats removed, you shouldn't have any problems. I've got Pioneer 6x9's at the back with the original square speaker grill because I couldn't be bothered with
cutting a bigger hole.

The negative wires for the factory loom has a grey or white line down the centre of it. The
+ve one is a solid colour.

The front doors might only be big enough for a 5.5" speaker, you may need spacers to fit the
6" speakers.

If you are using the existing wiring then the dash speakers should already have an inline high
pass filter (at least I was told at the time when I was doing mine).

Good luck with the install.

The best way of playing with the rear speakers is to remove the rear seats. Its not hard to do.
There's a few bolts to undo then the rear parcel shelf can be removed.

As for the front doors, there are retaining clips holding them in at the top of the door so after
unscrewing all the screws, you need to push the panel upwards to unclip it. Can't remember
exactly how it was done, did it a long time ago. Be sure to disconnect the door light as well.

Hope this helps. Its better if you have someone help you with it. The seats are heavy.

Goodluck.

Congratulations. :D

As I mentioned before, you need to push the whole trim upwards and outwards to remove it
once all the screws are out. There are clips holding it in along the top edge of the doord trim.

Well, yep, the doors can only take 5.5" max, you'd have to install spacers and also a new pod
to fit a 6". Some of the guys here have done that and I think theres a tech article on it as well.

The pod is the bit of plastic with the grill on it and the map pocket. All that have to go if you
want to fit speakers bigger then 5.5". You'll need to make custom ones or buy ones that comes
with a map pocket from audio stores.

For the spacer, you can use a piece of 1" thick MDF wood and cut a hole of 6" that covers the
existing speaker mounting hole and screw that on and then scew the speakers onto the MDF.

Killbilly has 6.5" speakers in his doors. Killbilly, your wisdom is required.lol

Killbilly

There's space for 6.5" speakers in the TR/TS doors. I'll post a pic when I scan it tomorrow.

But the spot is in the lower front of the door, whereabouts you would expect it to be.

Same with the TJ.. my 6.5 splits fit nicely.. Although, i couldnt use the Pod that came with the car, i had to make an MDF one as the magnet would have hit the window.

Killbilly
26-06-2004, 12:01 AM
That's interesting. I dont have a pod or anything and the magnet doesnt hit the window in mine, they sit quite nicely. But I think I will make a pod in the future for asthetics and mount the crossover in it as well.
