As some of you know i bought this muffler for a Ralliart (part number 14805)

When i went to the exhaust place the bloke strongly suggested he puts washers in there so it wont sound like crap and it wont drive like crap.. He reckons because the magnaflow is straight through, (you can literally see straight through it) that i will lose low down torque and gain high end torque, hence it will drive like crap.. wtf? Does that make any sense at all? Anyways so i said alright as he would know his stuff more than me. It ended up only being like $20 more or so... Here is a picture of the washers inside.. My question is should i get them taken out? am i sacrificing kw's or sound or the like?? My ralliart is bog stock if that helps..

It doesn't feel faster nor slower but sounds heaps beefier.. sounds quite good with minimal drone.. could it improve if the washers were taken out??
What the.....
Any straight through muffler you will lose some amount of low down torque. You have a nicely tuner engine that has lots of low down torque as it is, so you're not going to notice if you lose a tiny bit of low down torque. The reason why we put high flow mufflers on our cars is to get more power and torque HIGH up in the rev range.
I don't think it would be worth going back and getting it taken out, it will cost to take it off, take them out, weld it back on. I would have just said no in the first place because when you open the taps with your right foot, those washers will restrict the car when it's flat out, only a little bit though I would imagine.
Damn nice muffler though, no need to modify it. How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

so you removed a 2.5" straight through muffler and fitted a 2.5" straight through muffler with washers in it now.. so basically youve reduced the size of your exhaust system in comparision to a stock ralliart..
the exhaust guy is moron... you wouldnt loose any power with NO rear muffler.. let alone taking off a straight through muffler and putting one on of the exact same pipe size..
get the washers removed asap and i wouldnt pay.. he gave you cr@p advice... id be making him remove them for free
Any good exhaust guy would know that the Ralliart, sports and VRX already come with 2.5" straight through. You may not see from end-to-end because there is a slight S bend inside, basically, inlet is off-centre where outlet is on-centre. The magnaflow just have inlet centred and two outlets with a split inside. If you are not confident, take someone else with you to argue your case. The standard magna gained both power and torque from the standard muffler to the sports/vrx/ralliart muffler. What you've done now have reduced your peak power and torque.

so your saying i have reduced my power and toque from adding the muffler?
Not by adding the magnaflow. The Swapping the ralliar muffler with the Magnaflow would not have changed anything. However, by adding the washers which act as baffles, you have reduced the peak power and torque.
