Sorry to bare the bad news, but you are not permitted to wind back kms on your cluster just because you have fitted a new motor.
Everything else on the car is still aged, there would be no way of legitimately getting this done.

You can keep your eyes open on ebay for a lower km's dash but like Leigh said, its not permitted to do so. At the end of the day, the car still has X ammount of k's on it. Just write down what Km's your engine was fitted and keep a record in the glove box so when the car gets sold you can say "new motor fitted at 247,xxx km's.

yeah, tis against the law to unscrew the plastic cover from the dash cluster and use a flat head screw driver to push the numbers backwards.
get yourself a nice ralliart cluster with a few km on it, looks nice and does what you want it to :)

lol If it was that easy, moving the tumblers with a screwdriver, I would have 2 TS Magnas with zero km on the clock. Can't be done that easily, this method will simply break the little arms that move the numbers. Its not worth doing, as most buyers know how to match condition of the car exterior and interior to the speedo reading.

mount the front of the car on stands put the car in reverse on hold the accelerator down with a brick, in a few hours you will be back a few thousand k's :D

if u try rewinding the numbers backwards they will never line up again, thats how you can tell when its done, either do it illigally which i highly dont reccomend and wind it forward til 999,999 and i think it flips over to 0 or buy a new cluster...

But only go half the amount you want to wind it back as the motor will be that much older lol

Doesn't work, the speedo still reads as normal when you go backwards. Driving in reverse for 1 km won't rewind the speedo by 1km.

Soooo what happens when you drive in reverse?? Does it add on KM's to show the car has done extra milage?

Not knowing the regulations in Tasmania, but in NSW if you change a complete engine, you have to notify the RTA so the new engine number can be recorded. That engine is now related to your cars Vin Number. So there is a track of which vehicles that engine has been in. And as already mentioned, against the law to wind back speedometer.

Yes, I've done it too when I rebuilt an engine. Went back to all zeros, to keep track of services. Car didn't get sold with mis-represented Km though, it ended up at the wreckers. Changing the speedo reading curses a car, I'm convinced of it!
lmao, the evil car gods frown upon such sins
