hey guys , i dont know if im aloud to post non mitsubishi related problems here but i need help with my mums 1994 mazda eunos 800m
the problem is that she lost the key so she got another one and now the car will start then turn off within 1 to 2 seconds.
i'm thinking that the key needs to be coded in to work with the immobiliser??
what do you guys think?

Sounds very much like it. As Eunos was Mazda's premium brand (like Lexus for Toyota, or Infinity for Nissan), I would expect your mum's car to be fairly sophisticated and well-equipped for its time (not to mention the interesting Miller-cycle powerplant). A coded-key immobiliser would be expected.
A call to a Mazda dealer, esp a larger one who may once have been the Eunos outlet (they were distributed thru a smaller network of dealers than the general Mazda range) would soon set you straight. Coding of the key may be quite expensive, too (it is for Mitsi's at the Dealers). Otherwise you could try a customer help-line for Mazda in Australia - White Pages is your friend!

thanx elwyn will give it a try
if it doesnt fix the problem ill be back on this thread :)
Try this Mazda club http://www.mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=58&start=0...do a search as they cover the Eunos. The dealers will charge an arm and a leg to code the key but maybe there is a cheaper way....I'd also ask MrMinit or a locksmith, both should be able to tell you if they can code them
My previous car was a Eunos 800 - no M unfortunately, but a very nice car.
www.teameunos.com is the aussie site you may want to visit.
I came across some instructions about registering new remotes - I was wondering if there might be some combination of sensor in the key which is required to be mapped as well to 'associate' the new key with the immobiliser...
If it is, then this text / link may help: http://teameunos.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1337
Programming instructions are really simple and I will list them here as they would be the same for either the factory unit or the after market one.
1. Remove key from ignition.
2. Close all doors.
3. Open driver side door and leave open.
4. Insert key in ignition and turn key to ON (as far as you can go without starting the car) and OFF, then remove key.
5. Repeat step 4 2 more times, ensuring that you remove the key each time.
6. Push the driver door frame button 3 times (black rubber button located on the driver door frame that tells the vehicle whether or not the door is closed). If you can't find this button, just close and then open the driver's door 3 times.
7. The door locks will cycle or a chime will sound signalling that the vehicle is now in programming mode. If it doesn't happen, wait 40 seconds and start again at step 1.
8. "ALL" transmitters need to be repogrammed at this time, including any old ones. Push any button on a transmitter 2 times. A chime will sound or the door locks will cycle at this point, signalling that the vehicle has accepted the new transmitter code. Push any button on each additional transmitter 2 times to program it. The system will accept up to a total of 3 remotes.
9. After all remotes are programmed, wait 15 seconds or until you hear 4 chimes signalling successful programming.,
10. DONE!! Test the transmitters!
I hope this helps!
Good luck!
Oggy.

...... and here was me thinking you also needed to dance naked in moonlight to associate a key to the immobiliser! Just a bloody extreme system of getting into programming mode, IMHO. Certainly your average teenage joy-rider wouldn't chance upon that combo of activities by trial and error!
Just had a random, tho possibly helpful, thought. There is a seller on Ebay selling Mitsi key-blanks (to suit a 3rd gen) for about $20-00, BUT his advert is quite specific that the key doesn't have an immobiliser chip, and actually has a little concealed "pocket" thing in the plastic so you can get a chio and place it in the key.
If oyu find that Seller and have a look if he sells blank keys for Mazda/Eunos, he might also state about immobiliser chips for those keys........
EDIT: Oggy's post is much more on the money. If your mum got another key (presume from Mazda) it may just be the "training" of all keys which is required!

ok peeps , key coding didnt work , got a quote from mazda for $800 to fix the problem .
Oggy i searched all over teameunos and even started a thread and had no response.
is it possible to bypass the stock immobiliser??? im only asking this because we cant afford what mazda quoted us.
Yeah, TeamEunos (TE) forum doesn't have a lot of people on board so might take a while to get a good response. They are nice people from my experience though.
I don't know how to bypass the stock immobiliser, but I'm sure there would have to be a way.
I checked the workshop manual pdf that I found during my time on TE, and here's a bit of the fuse box in the engine bay of the KL. #13 is a "Starter Cut Relay" which might be worth checking.
I can't remember if the 800M is a KL or KJ. For the KJ, this relay is in the drivers footwell. The manual doesn't really show exactly, but looks like it's just above the inside fuse box.

I'd suggest trying an auto electrician, see if they can beat an $800 price tag! :(
Good luck!
