Hi guys quick question I have a set of 17" by 7" rims of a 380. Will they fit my stock tj2 magnate and what size turrets of more specifically how big a profile can I go.

They will fit no problems at all, and check the factory profile - they were most probably a 225/50/17 or 225/55/17, which would work well and better than (for example) 235/45/17 on the 17x7s.

225/50R17 should do. However, you need to get the tyres with the XL stamp which means they are 95+ load rated as most if not all 225/50R17 non XL tyres are 94 or less load rated. Bear in mind that XL rated tyres cost more, something like $50 extra per tyre.

225/55R17 would be way too big compared to stock 205/65R15 in terms of overall diameter and 235 wide tyres are generally not recommended for 7" wide rims as they sag too much.

Have a go at this site (http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp) or this one (http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp).

for the record the stock size would have been 215/55/17 for use on those calculators mentioned above...

No. The stock size is the size of the TJ Magna. When you put after market or other sized rims, you need to fit tyres to match the overall diameter of the stock tyre/wheel combination. 215/55R17 is 3.12% bigger in OD then 205/65R15 which is illegal.

Does 235/45/17 sound ok?

i know that. he knows that. (i put my set off my 380 on my ts and had to change the tyres!) i was letting him know what size tyres were on the 380 rims already incase they werent in his posession yet. and thus that they were unsuitable.

You will probably be OK with these... 235 is a little too wide for the 7" rims, thus 225 or 215 would be better, but I've fitted the same size to factory 17x7 rims and they haven't given me any grief. However, as Vlad states, you may want to consider what is legally the best tyre size for these rims if that is a concern to you.
