I'm looking at changing my suspension set up, dropping it down a little and stiffening everything up. I had a morning off work the other day so i went down and had a bit of a chat to the local suspension joint, just moved up to QLD so im still getting used to the area and havent gotten to know any mechanics in the area. anyway i went to pedders and got the following quote for my TL AWD.

2080R - sports ryder coil spring front RH - $81.45
2080L - sports ryder coil spring front LH - $81.45
2561 - 2X sports ryder coil springs rear - $166.50
9846R - GSR sealed strut RH - $228.60
9846L - GSR sealed strut LH - $228.60
9247 - 2X gas sports rider strut rear - $261.0
- Fitting - $295
- 4 wheel alignment - $80

Total - $1422.60

looking at the actual costings and RRP on the sheet it seems the guy gave me a 10% discount on basically everything but fitting. and i know Pedders arent really the greatest around but from what i read this sports ryder gear seems higher performance than their regular gear.

so what are everyones thoughts? fair price or is this guy trying to lead me down the path a little here?

The Pedders Sportsryder gear still isn't as good as other aftermarket options (namely King Springs and KYB/Boge shocks).

Kings/Boges/KYBs are pretty standard gear, if the suspension shop is worth their salt they'll be able to order them in for you. Alternatively, forum sponsor Mits-Fix will sell you 4x King Springs for $240 (vs your quote of $328), and a set of 4x Boge shocks for $540 (vs $717).

Is that 10% discount because he didn't include GST and you find out about that when you go to pay ?

I can't comment on other prices though as I haven't done any suspension changes since my wife's Koni adjustable reds up front for about $450 fitted a few years ago. (just shocks, no springs)

since i had the springs already on me, i was quoted and charged approx $840 for front and rear Boge shock absorbers to be supplied and fitted to my car from jax tyres- this also included a wheel alignment. going by this and for the prices i've seen King springs go for (which i've got), it'd have been a total of just over $1k if i didn't have the springs on me

IMO if you want a firm suspension setup, go for a Lovell and Koni setup- my brother has Lovell control springs up front and Lovell lows on the rear with Koni Yellows up front and KYB's on the rear- he's even told me that his car is a lot more firmer than mine (and i'm on King super lows up front and custom set springs on the rear)

i've also heard that Lovell's have made stiffer springs than King's anyways

YOu can go either Kings or Levell, personally I prefer Kings as the rates feel better and too stiff on real bumpy roads, aside from the bad ride, the harder suspension can cause the tyre to lose contact with the road which is a bad thing

The Boge are $540, KYB are $430 (KYB are still far better than Pedders) and the kings are $240 if brought as a complete set

I've got King Lows + Boges in the Awd, took a little while to bed in, but the road hold from this setup is fantastic. Highly recommended. I got my gear from Shawn at Phillcom (http://phillcomrally.com/), he's an old sponser from here, fantastic bloke to deal with, from memory set me back $730 delivered to my door, can't recommend him enough!

That quote's a rip off.

Go to Mal for Boges shocks and Lovells Superlows, or King Lows if you can't take the height, and put them in yourself if you can.

Haha alright well that was pretty unanimous. Looks like I'll be getting the boges and kings lows... Once I can convince the missus that my current suspension is too old and is becoming a safety hazard :p

One last question about the boges shocks as I can't really find much information about them online, are they a plain nitrogen strut or an oleo type? And if so does anyone know if they're air/oil seperated or mixed?
