225/50R17

You could go a slightly different size if you want, as long as it's -/+ 15mm of what is on your placard.

I just noticed your Verada comes with 215/60R16 tyres standard (http://www.redbook.com.au/used-cars/details.aspx?R=89716&__Qpb=true&Cr=4&__Ns=p_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cp_ClassificationType_S tring%7c0%7c%7cp_Family_String%7c0%7c%7cp_Year_Str ing%7c1%7c%7cp_SequenceNum_Int32%7c0&__N=2994%204294949495%204294843001%204294965290&silo=1300&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=7&__sid=1298E113EC1D). 225/50R17s, despite being factory fit on the VR-X models, would be too small for your Verada (calculated using this (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)). However, 225/55R17s would be a nice fit (6mm smaller than stock).

I have 18s, so I run 235/40R18s. They're 10mm smaller than what's on my placard so 100% legal. Back when I had 17s, I ran 225/50R17s, but that's because they were the factory tyre size as indicated on my placard. Tyre-wise, I run a set of Maxxis MA-Z1s, which I paid $240 each for. Good value performance tyre. If you're deciding what tyres to get, do a search, there's plenty of discussion on it (in particular, a megethread in the 380 section).

I've got the same problem - my AWD has 215/60/16 which is a larger diameter than other Magnas.
this means that my new 18s are 245/45/18 and they're about 10mm SMALLER than original. A 235/40/18 is outside of the legal range.
But I bet all the gearing, speedo, etc are exactly the same as other Magnas !!!

You need to keep it in mind when driving - the speedo would have to be recalibrated to suit if you wanted it to be accurate. Use the tyre calculator I linked to to work out the difference. eg when my speedo says I'm doing 102km/h, I'll only be doing 100km/h because of my smaller tyres.

I did have 215/60R16 then switched to 225/50R17XL then switched to 225/55R17 (nice size and cheaper than the 225/50R17XL) and now run 225/45R18 (5mm smaller OD then 215/60R16).
I may decide to go 235/45R18.

245/45R18 is actually on the border at 13mm bigger than stock. 235/45R18 is 5mm bigger but are rarer and more expensive. 235/40R18 is way outside at 19mm smaller.

This site (http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp) allows you to compare a stock size with up to 4 variations. You could also ask it to list available tyres in that size, although that is in America, however, you can then go to the oz websites and see if the particular tyre is available in that size.

Oops - my bad - originally they tried to supply 245/40/18s which were 10mm under original, but had 245/45/18 in stock and you're right, Vlad, they're 13mm over original size.
So with 100kph on my speedo, I may be doing 102kph. Will have to test with GPS.

Twisties, if 225/50/17 is the original tyre size for your car, then 235/45/17 is 13.5mm smaller so legal in NSW and this might be the standard Ford Falcon tyre - you should have a large choice at good prices if that's the case.

He has a verada which came with 215/60R16. 235/45R17 is way too small at 21.09mm under. Best bet is either 225/50R17XL tyres (7.62mm smaller but exxy) or 225/55R17 (14.98mm larger and standard on some VE commodores).

Also remember to look at the weight rating. I thought you need at least 95H

That is why I mentioned the 225/50R17 in XL form which is 95+ load rated. The standard 225/50R17 is <= 94.

No point testing with gps, speedo inaccuracy regardless of tyre size will make it impossible to tell you real speed
