When buying a 2003-2005 Magna, can anyone explain what spec to look for?
Is a TW a higher spec than a TL?
What does ES indicate? e.g. TW ES
Cruise control is a must-have for me (for those leisurely Canberra commutes)
I own a 99 TH Exceutive and I'd say it's the lowest spec Magna, wind-up windows etc, thinking of changing to a 2004-2005 model.
Thanks
Stewart
TW the newer of the 2, ES is equivalent to Exec, VRX is probably the best of the non veradas afaik. Couldnt tell you which ones have cruise and which dont. www.redbook.com.au for those answers

Thanks Woob, redbook explains it nicely

All have cruise, all have climate, all have power windows, VR/VRX has a black interior, VRX has options of leather and sunroof, VR/VRX comes factory with sports exhaust. VRX gets a body kit. If you're after something nice look at KL/KW Verada's.

All TL/Ws come with the drivers power seat too. I think all came with 4x airbags with the exception of the ES, which I think only comes with 2. The TW was basically the TL 'series 2' - very little difference apart from some minor cosmetic stuff. Standard kit on this series was better than previous models, even at base model level (ES).

No, the ES came with 4 bags... The *only* differences were visual (interior and exterior), fog lights, and exhaust. All the running gear was the same.

In TF, would it not be the Sports which is the highest spec?

No, the Altera LS was the top of the line model (short of the verada range)

All TL/Ws come with the drivers power seat too.
I bought a KL to replace my TJ and found that the power seat and plush padded lining robbed me of the head room I was used to for my 6' 3" carcase. Now I have sagging (50mm) sunvisors with vanity mirrors and lights that clip me on the forhead. It is still a lot nicer car though.

is 380GT better than 380VRX?

And the transmission. VR/VR-X Auto was the 5sp Semi-Auto, the lower models still only got the 4sp Semi-Auto.
is 380GT better than 380VRX?
Yes but the GT didn't have the option of a Manual.

TE and TF - Altera LS, V6, Auto only
TH - Altera LS (1999 only), alloys as standard, The TH Executive LS were the last TH's made in June 2000, similar to the Altera LS but no power windows, driver only airbag. Auto only.
TJ - Sports and VR-X had alloys as standard
There are many VR-X TL and TW's driving around. TW had silver at the bottom half of the rear bumper and a large VR-X decal on the side. The TL model was all the same colour. I saw two TL VR-X's in the same car park today, one was red and the other pewter silver. Quite popular.
I also have seen a Green TL VR driving around with TJ Ralliart wheels and a VR decal on the side.

The TL VR limited edition got the ralliart enkei rims from stock as well as the koni suspension.

Guys, thanks for all the answers. One more question: when did Mitsubishi stop fitting the 3 litre engine in the Magna?
I see some adverts for relatively young Magnas where the seller claims it has a 3 litre, I'm assuming they've guessed and wrongly!

Not entirely true. Some of the later TL's had the two tone rear bar, I know this from owning one. The VR-X decal only came on the Limited Edition models afaik, be it VR or VR-X. The TW's also had the Momo style steering wheel which some of the later TL's had, and a different cluster was fitted to the later TL's and TW's.
3L stopped in the early TJ's, pretty sure they ditched it when the MY02 models were released.
