im looking to change my cat converter before having my diamagnarada :) tuned aka TF just wondering that the differences is between metalic and ceramic cat converters are any advantages from one to the other.
current system consists of pacemakers into the stock cat to TL mid section and Vrx exhaust
Cheers Pete
Go the hi-flo metal cat, these handle more heat so will last longer. Standard mid section is fine.

ceramic cats are more succeptable to heat and will break up after time so you will get a pingy rattle sound and performance will drop. go a high flow cat (metal), it will increase performance and help your engine breath easier. i replaced mine on my rx8 (stock are ceramic and around 3k) with a venom high flow 100 cel, they are around 200 each. will make your car a bit louder and the exhaust will smell different as it is not filtered.

Pete, is this for the car you've been working on?
If so, grab yourself a metal highflow cat - at least 200 CPI or less, (less is better, not sure of legalities, though.) I'd upgrade everything back to a full 2.5" as well, as the setup you've got actually needs it. as I did each section on mine with your set-up the difference was noticeable.

in wa the lowest you can go is 200 cel (i scraped the rating off mine), fairly sure vic is the same.

See, I got a high flow cat that's ceramic that I haven't installed, and it's about 250 cpi and a quarter if not less the length of the stock cat.
I've heard of people saying the honeycomb on ceramic collapses and yada yada, but I have an inkling it's one of those, yeah it collapses in 300,000k's whereas the Steel conks it at a million.
In other words, who cares lol
Also the metal cat does flow better but no Magna that's not forced induced or has some crazy ass power mods will see any difference with it.
Only reason you'd get the metal is if you plan to keep your Magna forever and/or you want the exhaust louder.
Ayways, I'm no expert :P

auscall yes this is the car running the tighe cams now as well had to settle for 6 deg rear bank and 4deg front bank advance as the grind wasnt the best was shooting for 4 & 4 so not too bad i guess, i see what you mean about the idle sounds angry i love it
im not planing to change the mid section if it can be helped as i only just put the new TL mid section in to get rid of the 3.0 ltr plumbing, thanks guys i was leaning toward the metal 200cpi to stay legal in vic this just backs up my thoughts

that is tru, also depends on how hard you push it and heat aswell (mine collapsed at 60k). i drive a rotary so i have more of an issue with heat than a magna will. ceramic and metal also produce a slightly different note. it is personal choice really and whateva suits u and your budget

its not an exact science but to make up for the deficiencies in the metal substrate make up of the metal cats, they can be put closesr to the headers without as much worry about them failing. The closer they are the quicker they heat up/the hotter they will get, and the hotter they get the better they perform, until they collapse. To stop them clogging early, there is a trend to move them closer to the manifold, this also helps with emissions but this is more relavant to new cars with new emissions laws, nthing out magnas have to worry about. Just a point of reference.
A daily drive will be unlikely to see ANY gain from a ceramic cat or metal cat. Having said that, i brought metal because i dont believe in doing things by halves, much to the detrement of my wallet
