I was wondering if you need a magna gearbox? is there any way that you could get a 6 speed gearbox fitted into a TH? I do heaps of freeway driving and the short ration annoys me, but it might not be worth the trouble. Any suggestions would be great thatnks guys/gals

Get 5th gear custom made to a differant ratio..

From what little I've looked at with a 6 speed gearbox, the 6th was the same ratio as the same car with a 5spd box.
So the 6 spd was just close ratio, not an extra gear. (can't remember what car it was though).

A cheaper option might be to run taller tyres and have your speedo recalibrated - that way every gear will be taller and engine revs lower for the same speed.

Audi box no...

6G72, 4, and 5 boxes are interchangable (however I believe driveshafts may be different on 6G75s - Customs may be required) - Anyways, there is a 6sp manual box available on the 6G75 fitted to a mitsubishi eclipse GT from 2006 onwards, so it is possible, however actually finding one of these boxes may be quite challenging.

I read somewhere that apparently theres one from a hyundai that may fit? Im not sure if it would fit the magna or just the engine, or if it would fit at all since I cant find it again.

You might be on to something here. The tiburon came with 6sp box im sure of it. The tiburons 2.7 v6 engine is a propiertry design from when hyundai and mitsubishi shared certain drivelines. Interesting!

The current Mitsubishi Eclipse runs a 6 speed manual Aisen box which mates straight up to the 6G75. The previous model was 5 speed.

If not suss out on club 3g.org if they have the taller 5th gears. I know they make them for 2nd gen V6 manual's

And Dean apparently there is a guy running an AUDI 6sp in his magna. However it's been talk which is why I say "apparently"

Anything can be made to fit with a bellhousing adaptor and $$$$

get some 20's

Won't help.

I have 20s on my 5 speed manual 380, and it does an indicated 40km/h per 1,000 rpm in 5th gear.

So 3,000 rpm = 120km/h.

But that's the indicated speed, the true speed is closer to 114km/h

So the true ratio is around 38km/h per 1,000 rpm.

He would need atleast 30's to have any effect on what he is trying to achieve.

A long time ago on MCA there was a guy that *said* he put in an Audi 6sp AUTO box. However there was no pics, no info, and when the time came to sell it suddenly disappeared.

I also believe that was a 6 speed auto box. It was on this forum quite some time a go.

Found a thread on here with some information

http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56586&highlight=audi+auto

on the last page it says all of the dramas he had and ended up costing him around 10k

if you want more speed out of any particular gear, rev the engine higher. Stocko sr20det engine/box combo will do 120 out of 2nd, and will just top out of 3rd before speed cut at 180km/h.

There will be few 6sp gearboxs that actually are designed to lower highway cruising speed. most are short ratio boxes. As said, cheapest would be a custom 5sp gearset for 5th, increase the diamter of the Tyresnot jsut the rim and also have your speedo calibrate. Putting 20's on a civic will through out its speed because there isnt a tyre wall small enough to bring the overall diamter of the tyre back to stock size. Get some 20's with 235/50 (small suv sizing) that will get you doing around 115km/h at 100 on the speedo. with your speedo calibrated, you should be doing nearly 500rpm less then you were before for the same speed.

The 5spd tippy in my 30M will do 130km in second, and 180km in 3rd at about 6500rpm. I assume the jap diamantes like mine got the same ratios as your 5spd tippys? maybe not due to the higher rev range?

the reason you'll get 120 out of 2nd is because the 6A will rev to around 8,000rpm. You'll find the final drive and probably the 5th gear ratio is the same ratio from the FTO box to the magna box.
As ego said, get a custom 5th gear made but that said what is the point? The magna was designed to rev a litte higher in top gear, but you'll still get great economy. I remember getting 7.1L per 100km's on the freeway out of my Ralliart pre s/c
