View Full Version : Pod Filter on TF

Hey, I am looking at attaching a pod filter on my 3.0L TF.
Just wondering if it will make a noticeable different in performance over the standard cold air intake.
And also what I would need to buy to attach a pod filter to the engine.
Thanks! :)

To be blunt, if you want more noise, go for it, if you want more power, forget it.
All you are doing is sucking in hot air, the std air system in a Magna is more than sufficient for any NA motor

That's what I though, just wanted to confirm.
Now, at the risk of sound completely stupid - is there a way of making the standard intake more effective, or to make to suck in air faster?

It would worsen your performance and make acceleration laggy if you leave an exposed pod in your engine bay, sucking in the hot engine bay air.
You need a RPW CAI like I do, relocating the pod filter to the front foglight hole so it has access to fresh cold air, or you need a pod box that has tubing to the front foglight hole or wheel arch if you can manage it.
Also,I'm assuming you're talking about attaching a pod filter on your intake, not your actual engine... lol
In that case, you need a Mitsubishi MAF Adapter which goes over your MAF sensor, which you plug the pod onto.
Fairly easy to find, it's the same adapter for Mirage and Lancer also.
All I can say is don't bother with it unless you just want the sound, in which case remove the resonators on your intake and plug them up with Welch Plugs for a completely different sounding car.

Get a K&N High Flow panel filter and plug it into the standard airbox as if you would a normal paper filter.

Alright well standard pod filter idea has been completely discarded, if I want a nicer sound I'll just do my exhaust - I really don't mind if I don't hear the sucking sound.
Dingers - you have given me TOO many options haha. Now I have a lot to think about. Will probably go with the K&N High Flow panel filter for now just because it will be easier than mucking around with running tubing to my foglight hole or whatever.
Thanks heaps for the advice! I'm a hugeeeeeee noobie when it comes to pretty much everything that is to do with modifying cars! :(

I was in your position not that long ago as well, stick around, AMC and it's members are a wealth of knowledge.

On the SKR dyno as well as others, the paper filter was shown to perform the best, I know of 1 member who has found the oppersite however I knwo of many who have found the paper to be best
