Are you running the power cable and signal cable next to each other? Electrical "noise" from the spark plug leads i think can travel through the air and into the power cable, and if you run the power cable for the amp and the RCA signal cables next to each other, the amplifier amplifies the sound of the spark plugs firing and plays it through the speakers. Its much more noticable with un-shielded RCA leads (usually used in home theater stuff and not cars)

Someone who knows what theyrre talking about and not just guessing correct me if I got something wrong.

thanks. the auto elec who installed it said something about it not linking up with the alternator properly. cause it was a cheapie off ebay. not really that bad. makes it sound like i have a small supercharger haha.

any reason why an amp overheats? sounds like it cause it happens with prologned use.

Yeah means you're essentially driving it too hard, turn the gain/volume down or buy a better amp.

As for the whine, make sure RCAs are running separate.. after that make sure your ground is good.. if you're earthign to the chassis (likely) then unscrew it, rub it back with sandpaper and put it back on.
