I'm nearly finished with my mod list for my KJ, (See profile, I'll post members ride thread soon) & am now turning to my wife's TL wagon. I want to switch it from a 4sp tippy to a 5sp tippy.

What do I need? ECU, BEM, key & a 5sp auto from anything from TJ2 onwards? Will that mean I won't need to swap the dash/ engine loom over? Or will I need to stay with the TL/KL auto to make it as easy a swap as possible?

If possible, I'd rather not be stuffing around with swapping looms etc so the simplest option is what I'm after. Anyone able to assist with info?

Thanks. :)

lol lol

Can't believe that none of the 'gurus' here can help me!

So what I understand so far is that the speedo works slightly different in the TJ2 onwards, so it'd be fair to say that the looms from that series forward should be the same? (Except in higher spec models, where there may be allowances for T/C, foglights etc?) And there's a fair chance that the ECU plugs will be the same in these series so a 5sp one 'should' be able to be plugged in, along with the BEM & cluster?

Surely someone else here has contemplated this, not just me?

Ok ok I'll chime in, definately a loom swap as the ECU pinouts are completely different. You need both engine and dash harnesses.

If you run a search, there was a thread about this not long ago (ie upgrading from 4 to 5spd auto) - late last year or earlier this year. I'll post a link to it if I locate, as it included information about the parts req'd.

I would try and get a 5spd auto from a 380. They are bit stronger than the 3rd gens and they dont suffer from the wave spring issue. I am not sure how difficult it would be to put in a Magna though.
