I have a TP and just bought a voltmeter readout. Its the type from jaycar that takes up 1DIN and has 3 blue analogue readouts. Well Iv tried to get the black plastic bin out of the dash and it doesnt want to come out. Iv taken out all the screws I can find. Is there a way to get it out without removing the headunit or the console section? I am just about to resort to attacking it with a hammer and chizel. Please help!

ok... i just replaced mine with a panel full of switches, so i feel ur pain!
there is 3 screws... 1 each side and 1 at the bottom. i'm guessing u have the console out... from what i can remember u just get ur hand in the back and wriggle, jiggle and twist all u can. i can't remember any little tricks.

I havent got the console out...I dont want to do that because the HU is hardwired in.... I have pulled 2 screws out of it, I thought there was ont at the bottom....looks like I have to kill it with a chizel. Why couldnt it be easy and just have 2 screws on the sides? you shouldnt have to pull out the entire console section to do anything like that, just some side panels, I wish it was as easy as workin on a Toyota...

if u got flexi arms u should be able to reach. its just underneath the centre of the cup. its on a slight verticle angle.

Console is easy enough to remove, pry off the clip in the tray behind the handbrake, undo screws, and work your way forward. Be sure to keep all screws and remember where the tricky ones go.
Do you mean the change tub, or the drinks tray that comes out just above the radio?

i was after that black thing that looks like it holds stuff below the radio, that it?
i remember when my brothers friends first put a stereo in the magna a few years ago...they proceeded to break it...now its just a blank spot and i dont think i can afford gizmos and switches for a while :(

I really couldnt be bothered taking the console out so I got a soldering iron and melted the plastic around the bottom screw in the bin...then proceded to snap shards of plastic off with a pair of pliers. Worked perfectly. The voltmeter box slid straight in....I hope I dont need that bin in the future...
