well some time next week, ill be looking at a TJ magna for a mate, a guy he knows is selling one, TJ sports 100,000kms mint condition (aparently) whats the easiest way to tell between a series 1 and 2? i tihnk the series 2 had digitial ODD, was the S1-S2 upgrade have the 5sp auto?
and what ball park price figure should i expect $6000-7000???
cheers
Series 1 - Analog cluster and heater/ac controls
Series 1.5 (MY02) - Analog cluster and climate control OR digital cluster and analog heater/ac controls
Series 2 - Digital cluster and climate control
All TJ Sports have the 5sp auto.

if it has had the 100k service, and really is mint condish, i would say about 6 or 7 at the most, if it hasnt had the service, you would be looking at around 4-5.5.
to give you an idea, i saw a tw today for 6999,, it has 88k on the clock.

tell me about it, if i had the drive to swap the auto with my manual, i would have bought its, but it seemed like too much effort for a mid year project.
i notice the car is not on the side of the road today, somebody must have snapped it up

Series 1 TJ Sports had the higher VR-X spoiler and chrome door handles.
MY02 and onwards had the lower rear spoiler and black door handles.
AWD version avaliable in Series 2.
Standard 3.5L V6 with better free flowing exhaust. 155-> 163kw, better on fuel.
Not all sedans had a passenger airbag.
Wagons had a neat looking body kit.
The TJ sports would be the magna id choose if i had a choice of choosing one, it would be a good buy for about 6000 to 8000, dad bought a series 1 for 8250 at 145000kms. Best reason to get it is because it has all the same engine specs as a vrx, and the engine is more powerful than a normal magna engine, and as it has no bodykit u save on insurance i guess. But always lookout for the oil leak problems, but at 100,000 you wont have to worry bout it for a while. The series 1 that dad has, is 5spd Tiptronic and it has the normal analogue dash cluster and no passenger side airbag (may be a early unit). But very good buy for 7000-8000

Well here's a spanner in the works.... I have a MY02 Sports and it has both digital cluster and climate control and also the higher VRX spoiler on the boot. Maybe I got lucky?

Engines are the same at for Series II. Its just the exhaust that made the extra power.
SI Magna = 150kW
SII Magna = 155kW (engine tune/cams etc)
SI & SII Sports/VRX = 163kW (engine tune/cams etc plus rear muffler)
So chucking a sports muffler on a SII Magna should yield the same power as the sports/vrx.

I had a TF Verada before buying the Sports TJ wow what a differance. More Power drives heaps better and the owner before me put a chip in it makes a big differance.
dads is MY01, so the first series
