hi all,
i'm looking to get a new amp over this weekend to power my front splits. i do have one 2 ch amp to run my sub, nothing too fancy just a blaupunkt 40wx2 or about 110wx1. if i get a new what do you reckon i should get, another 2 channel amp or a 4 channel amp and get rid of the ol one?
i'm planning to get eclipse ea 3422 if it's a 4 channel, still no idea about two channel, any idea?
cheers

hmmmmmm this sounds similar to my situation.
I had just a crap Boss 2 channel running my sub, then i upgraded to the Eclipse EA3422 that you mention. I have that running my front 6 inch 3ways and my sub (bridged). I am using the old Boss 2 channel to run my rear 6x9s.
But then again this upgrade in part was due to the fact i HAD to have everything in my car running off an external amp because i fried the speaker outputs from the head unit :headbange. Got damn it sounds better now though
In your case you could simply have the 4 channel running your splits and sub, leave the head unit running the rears, and not worry about hooking up the blaupunkt. That would be fine
mate, get a monoblock!
have the current two channel run ur splits and then get a decent powered monoblock Digital amp to really pump ur sub!

2 separate amps is best for sub/splits unless the 4chan amp has dual power supplies ,which means that one pair of channels cannot starve the other of power.

i'm leaning towards single amp setup, due to less cable clutter, and my sub is only rated @150wrms, so i guess monoblock is out of question :)
i'm still unsure about two amps because then i will have to use distribution block to split the power cable, will this cause noise? considering i will be running cables on top of each other. thx for the input
and yeah, pricewise i can get eclipse ea3422 for 340, and the 2ch amp for about 180

daaaaaaaaamn, the eclipse for $340! where abouts? I got mine for $400 and thought that was quite good
anyways, yes if u arent upgrading the sub then i think just a 4 channel will work fine. Btw since adding another amp in my car i have now got engine noise. And the rca cables are well away from power and speaker wires too

Engine noise eh? If U didnt get it with only one amp then it could be the grounds. Are all of the ground wires the same gauge or thicker than the +ve input? They should be all connected at the same point and only one ground path per device (to prevent mulitple ground loops).
Redoing all of the grounds properly (All to one place, larger gauge wire, polished contact point, firmly bolted, etc) fixed my last car. I had the same problem of noise after the second amp was installed.

thats the **** im talking about!
clean bass! its sweet!
Oh and what is Alberts?
And i had wondered about the grounding might be causing my engine noise issues. As one amp is in the boot and one is under the passenger seat, they are grounded in 2 different locations. So you think have one grounding spot for both amps hey?
I suppose i could use the bolts on the back seat, as that is right in the middle of both amps

if i'm not wrong ground wire should be as short as possible, and wired up in one spot. i guess for your case either move both amps to the boot or under the front seats. i put mine under driver seat and hooked up the ground wire somewhere behind the dash together with other wires auxiliarly wires( factory ones). i also put wiring loom for the power cable, dunno if it actally shield from em wave, hopefully it does. i spent this morning with lotsa fun he..he..
engine noise can also caused by rca leads, i reckon those came with amp wiring kit is too thin, and i'm not using them. i bought another one and it's about 10 gauge in size, should be better imo, but correct me if i'm wrong.
oh albert's is a car audio place in perth, they're selling mostly good quality stuff.
