View Full Version : Tiptronic Conversion on my TH
I have a TH Magna Executive, and im getting the top resprayed, sports spoiler installed, windows tinted and as the cars auto i was wondering how much id be looking at if i were to buy and instal a 4sp or preferably 5sp tippy transmission in the car, its a 3.5L
4sp Tiptronic Conversion - Requires engine loom, dash loom, shifter assy, ECU (also a recode to your BEM), and cluster if you want the display. Transmission is the same in auto/tiptronic for the 4sp
5sp Tiptronic Conversion - Requires all of the above (cluster becomes requirement not option), plus transmission, CV joints, and possibly half-shaft
5sp Manual - Requires transmission, clutch, flywheel, shifter assy, shifter cables, clutch pedal assy, clutch master, line, and slave cylinders, sandwich plate, half-shaft, and brake/clutch switches for cruise control.
If you are after performance Manual is definately the way to go, with 5sp tiptronic coming second. However the cost of a 5sp tiptronic conversion (as this is a dash-out job) is substancially more then a manual conversion.
As for 4sp tiptronic, its just wank factor, there is no performance gain, and no more control then the straight-shift will give you. It is just as slow and unresponsive.
I have an idea, save yourself the conversion, sell the TH and buy this :D

thanks heaps, gave me all the info I needed and more :) think ill just save up for the manual conversion on it, from what you have said it seems more simple and more mechanical, plus if its cheaper and im getting more performance it would be silly to go for a tiptronic. I thought the opposite until now lol
Thanks Heaps! =D
