Hay all

I wont peoples opinions on choice of springs to fit on my kyp shocks that ill be fitting on my magna. Either put magna sports springs on the kyb shock. Or pedders springs wat would be a better choice.? The pedders are sagged alot but dont know if that will affect anything?

Thanks Kurt

Are you buying springs or just using what you have available? Are the KYB's new or 2nd hand?

If new, why not spend a few $$ now & pick up a set of Kings. It's a popluar choice that many members use. If the Pedders have sagged quite a bit, why put them in? It'll lower the car but won't do a whole lot of good for your handling. They're probably past there use by now anyway. :)

the shocks are brand new but for now my choice is the pedders or stock mitsubishi sports springs?

Both are soft and likely to cause premature wear on the shocks. I would recommend a set of King Lows if you are after performance.

pedders are cheap and nasty, go for the mitsi ones

Without any direct experience or any identifiable reason, I don't trust the Pedders brand.
Really strange because I like their presence in Australian Rallying. I like their TV ads, but I don't like their products.
Maybe I heard bad stories ages ago, but because of that, my vote would go to Mitsu Sports Springs.

Also that you said "The pedders are sagged alot" makes me think they should be thrown away.
Sag is what happens to old springs that have been used a lot. They aren't as effective as they should be.
Your tyres are the thing that keep your car stuck to the road, but the spring & shock is just as important.
Something that skips over bumps will add to your braking distance - and we all know that a shorter braking distance is the difference between a straight car & a bent one.

I have changed springs in both my TJ-era cars, and used Kings Springs in both cases. As a country driver, including unsealed roads, I am not a big fan of lowering (impractical for me) - although I did choose slightly-lowers Kings "SP" for my Verada..... TJ Sports has tractor-height (standard). Neither car has done enormous distances, the Sports has done maybe 30-40K or so over maybe 2 yrs - and can't fault these springs.

Mal / Madmagna / Mits-Fix supplied and fitted the Kings SP onto my KJ combined with Boge shocks...... very happy with the job and the results. Cost of Kings Springs is quite reasonable compared to cost of shocks.

Do you plan to do the work yourself, or having it done somewhere? Would be a shame to pay someone to combine new shocks with tired springs, unless finances are absolutely tight. If you doing the job yourself, well fair-enough - but again its lots of stuffing-around where replacing both shocks and springs together will give a better/safer result and should ensure longevity of shocks especially.

And, Pedders seem to have a bad rep around these forums...

I have VOGTLAND springs (german brand from mag and turbo here in NZ) with kyb excells and they are great , not sure if you guys get them over there. Nice and low, firm , but not harsh.

Have been stung twice by pedders springs. Would never touch a pedders product again.
If they are your only choice then go the Genuine ones even though they might not give you the drop you are after.
As others have said, a good other option is Kings lows.

Good choice, they are properly matched to the car etc etc and are probably well engineered,if aftermarket,my choice is Lovell springs

I recomend King Lows. They are 185lbs (approx 50% stiffer than OEM mitsu) and a good match for the KYBs. This is the setup I ran for quite a while before I eventually went to Bilstein + 400lbs custom springs. OEM mitsu is WAY too soft if you care remotely about chassis dynamics.

Um what? Please explain why you thnk this would be the case.

Hey Andrew, you must have an iron plated arse!

I recently went to King Superlows and they are great. I do lots of hwy and country driving and the 380 is harder than a Magna for the sports setting, and for an older guy with a soft bum it's good lol

hello Richard (i recalled your name correctly I hope?), yes I'm driving around Sydney streets on 400lbs springs and solid-mounted strut tops, so iron plated arse probably isn't far from the truth=p Btw your display pic is absolute gold hehehe

What sort of lowerage and stance to King Lows all round give you?

Say If I wanted that typical Magna bum high stance, would I go for Super Lows in the front and Lows in the rear?

King Lows are about a 45mm drop over standard.

People choose to use Superlows in the front because of the higher wheel arch on the front. With the Superlow/Low combo, the gap between the tyre and the guard is about similar front and back.

If you want pictures of stance, do a search in the Members Machine forum, nearly everyone in there has some sort of aftermarket suspension installed.

Many people my self included would advise against going super Lows. You don't have any suspension travel in the front. You sit on your bump stops and your car will ride like a pig. Also the fact that they will make your car unroadworthy.
They are more just for show.

So how about the difference between Lovell Superlows which drop 50mm vs King Lows drop 45mm?

45mm is low enough. These will also caule a bottom out/hot bump stops on a decent bump. Any more would just be making it worse.
